  • It is a relatively nearby lava cave from Hilo. Made during the eruption of Mauna Loa in 1881 that the length is 25 miles (40 kilometers) to. And the number of miles you can actually enter, is 100% humidity and scaffolding to the experienced hundreds of meters, was wrapped. Still, unlike Thurston lava tube compared to authentic cave were convinced. Reportedly stopped in this Calman before and here go to the town of Hilo flowing lava from Mauna Loa and Hilo save Princess Ruth Ke'elikolani Pere asked, it seems. When you visit, one one headlight is, of course, but we recommend hat (the helmet), work gloves, caravan shoes, etc. It is then better to waterproof camera from humidity, the camera.

  • Out tour director was very informative and we had great weather, would do it again, its not a big lava tube but then it was my first one.
  • Worth a stop if you're in the area, but the lava tubes at the Volcano National Park is much better. Don't make a special trip just for this.

  • I enjoyed it. need proper shoes and also torch. Map maybe good to have including history of caves
  • Amazing and scary!!!! You must be ready with good shoes and few flashlights. When we went there were absolutely no people and no guides you just go alone into completely dark natural cave. Its awesome! We didn't go all the way we went to one side a bit and then returned and went to the left side which is long and beautiful we walked for about 20min and came back
  • The farthest I've even gone in was about a half hour (don't know distance) and it was mostly wide enough to walk or crouch. At that point a group of teens came out of the far depths and told us they'd been in there walking at least an hour before they returned back. They looked to me like they were telling the truth with how tired they were. How much adventure you want to get out of this cave is up to you, just don't go alone.
  • Cool experience overall but the parking lot is across the busy road and there are no crosswalks. Dangerous for our kids to cross.
  • Very cool place to explore
