Support local growers at Hilo Farmers Market, which is open daily. The market's 200 vendors sell everything from produce to handicrafts, but the market is also a hub of culture with live music and artists selling their wares. On certain days, locals are invited to rent a booth at a discount and sell their used books, second-hand clothing, and antiques. The market is its own community, and it provides a good way for visitors to get to know the locals. Visit the attraction's website for a list of featured vendors and to obtain online coupons for discounted goods. With our custom trip planner, Hilo attractions like Hilo Farmers Market can be center stage of your vacation plans, and you can find out about other attractions like it, unlike it, near it, and miles away.

  • Unual fruits and vegetables that's hard to find. Cocoa, mangosteen, lychee, breadfruit, warabe, pumpkin blossoms etc
  • Absolutely loved the experience of a farmer's market. All the people work hard and are very humble. The produce was fresh and it all tasted great. Good stuff and a must do!
  • Many vendors, especially on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Beware of some produce deals that are too good, as some vendors will pre-bag rotten food and try to sell you on a "good deal". Great otherwise!
  • Great food even better people. You've got to check out Pam's stall. Her family's farm feeds my families insatiable appetite for fresh fruit and veg. TIP: Ask for Apple Bananas but, be warned no other banana will satisfy after you have tried them.
  • Hilo Farmers Market opens right at 7 am, and that's when we got there (we had an early flight into the Big Island and happened to be in the area around opening time). They have a good selection of fruits and veggies but it's nowhere near as big or as nice as the KCC Farmer's Market on Oahu. For starters, they don't have any food trucks or food stands - unless they don't set up til later on. We left probably around 7:30. But not before I got my fresh coconut water - 3 bucks!
