Dry Falls, Highlands

4.9
Unlike the name suggests, at you will see a lot of rushing water in the scenic Nantahala National Forest. The 24.4 m (80 ft) falls steam from an overhanging cliff, which you can walk under on the path and stay relatively dry. However, when it rains and the water flow is higher, you might get sprayed. Near the parking area is an observation deck where you can take in the entire waterfall. To experience the falls up close, walk the short, paved trail. Make sure to protect your camera and other electronic equipment, and consider bringing an umbrella or waterproof jacket. Admission is free and the parking area has restrooms. • The trail and steps down (and there are many) are well maintained and have handrails. There are many places to take pics along the way. The trail even leads under and behind the falls. It was beautifu...  more »
  • Really enjoyed visiting the falls. Began the trek down the stairs/path to have the opportunity to "go behind" the falls. And at the end of the path, the entry has been closed due to potential falling ...  more »

  • Most awesome experience ever!! We have a waterfall in Indiana that everyone talks about walking under, but it takes trespassing to do. We finally fulfilled our dream, legally! The bathrooms were very... concerning when we visited, however.
  • Amazing views. Have been to Dry falls multiple times since I was a child. There is now a men and women’s bathroom incorporated into the parking lot, but beware the toilets don’t flush, they are similar to port a potties. The stairs are steep, but there are handrails to help. The endless amazement captivates everyone who walks the pavement. Great place to take your significant other, friends, and family!
  • My boyfriend and i went yesterday it was a beautiful fall. We couldn't walk under it though it the gate was locked. There is a pay box in the lot on the left as u drive in but it's worth it.
  • One of the most beautiful waterfalls around. And so peaceful. Its my Happy place that I shared with a very special friend.
  • Soooo gorgeous. Stairs weren’t overwhelming. Really would like to come back to get underneath the waterfall. Gate was locked, but I’m also here in March and it’s projected to hit the 30’s so I feel like that’s standard. There’s a little tiny waterfall to the right of Dry falls that has a road block but isn’t gated and you can take a picture from the grass to capture people under the waterfall or stabilize your phone on the road block and use a timer! Would recommend warmer weather but we still had a blast!
