  • This small museum makes good use of its few galleries. We enjoyed seeing the works of three very different artists plus an exhibit of historic motorcycles.
  • It's an art museum in the middle of an area not known for art. They do what they can. It's not worth going out of the way for.

  • This is Helena's lone museum dedicated to contemporary art, and it is a gem. If you are interested in the local arts scenes of the cities that you visit, then the Holter is an essential stop.
  • Full disclosure: I am a docent at the Holter, so I know I am not objective. But way before I became a docent I loved the Holter -- this is one of the reasons Helena is such a cultural city. We have the Archie Bray Foundation, the Myrna Loy, the Helena Symphony, Grandstreet Theater, other theater groups, several amazing dance studios, and lots more. Holding it all together is the Holter Museum of Art with international quality exhibits, an awesome educational program and regular gallery talks and artist residencies. If you don't already attend Holter events regularly, consider making the Holter part of your routine. The creative inspiration will fill your well!
