  • It's a nice drive out to the boat launch. We were a large group and were able to get in the same boat. It was a covered one which worked out well for both sun and the threat of rain. Great tour guide....  more »

  • Great place to bring the family for a little tour boat ride that takes about 2 hours. You can either sit inside the boat or outside. There is ample seating and a bathroom onboard.
  • This is a two hour boating tour of the Gates of the Mountains Wilderness. It's a good sized boat with a canopy that takes you on a guided tour a few miles up the Missouri River. The captain told us about all of the history of the Native Americans and the experiences of Lewis and Clark. He wove in information about the wildlife and the geology. Perhaps the most historically significant event was the Mann Gulch Fire of 1949, wherein 13 smokejumpers died trying to run from a 70 mph inferno sweeping through the canyon. It is the most studied wildfire and dramatically changed the way they're fought. On our tour, we saw a bald eagle, quite a few osprey and a black bear. The guide mentioned they sometimes see mountain lions and goats. He also pointed out pictographs that were difficult to make out, but explained they were carbon dated at several thousand years old, I believe. It's a pretty nice and informational tour if you're in the Helena area.
  • This is a stunning boat tour of the gates of the mountain wilderness area. You get to hear some history about the area (including Lewis and Clark's thoughts, stories about various fire fighters, etc), look at some pretty awesome cliff faces, and maybe catch a glimpse of some wildlife. Definitely worth the trip. The tour is accessible to all ages, no strenuous activity involved.
  • Horrible customer service. We are visiting from Arizona and we booked a boat trip for July 10, and it was raining and very cold. The boat we were scheduled to tour in was an open wooden boat and not an option. We could not go at a later time that day, as we had other family commitments that would have had to be delayed. We asked for a refund since this was not our fault. The "gentleman" Tim who answered the phone would NOT REFUND our money because the weather conditions were not "HIS" fault. He hung up on me when I kept trying to get my money back. We called back and he said he was verbally accosted. Wow, you won't refund our money, we live in another state and can't just "reschedule". Would not even consider a refund. Unfortunately we will not be able to enjoy what should have been an awesome adventure.
  • This is a must.On our boat ride we were fortunate to see big Horn sheep and a few Eagles. The captain of our boat was excellent very informative.I would do it again if we came back.
