Lake St. Clair Metropark/Metro Beach Metropark is a 770-acre unit of the Huron-Clinton Metroparks system located roughly 20 miles (32 km) northeast of downtown Detroit, Michigan in Harrison Township, Macomb County. Lake St. Clair Metropark has been in existence since 1950 and has seen many changes since then. Originally named St. Clair Metropolitan Beach, it was renamed in 1953 to Metropolitan Beach Metropark and later shortened to Metro Beach Metropark. On December 8, 2011, the Board of Commissioners for the Huron-Clinton Metroparks approved changing the name to Lake St. Clair Metropark. The park is located at Jefferson Avenue and Metropolitan Parkway (16 Mile Road) and there are signs to Lake St. Clair Metropark on Interstate 94 (I-94).Plan to visit Lake St. Clair Metropark and other customer-reviewed, writer-recommended Harrison Township attractions using our Harrison Township online trip itinerary builder.
Due to sewage overflows, Metro Beach has seen occasional closures caused by high E. coli content in the water. The beach was closed for nine days in 2009 for this reason.

Beautiful overnight trip. Bathrooms weren’t opened due to Covid 19. Hardly any socially distancing on the beach or pier. Walked the pier and rode our bikes to get ice cream more »

Love this park. Well kept. Beautiful walking paths that go everywhere. Many picnic tables and very family orientated. Nature center, boat launch, marina, small concession stand, wonderful playground for all ages with the rubber ground, many accessible bathrooms, splashpad is lots of fun, big pool for another fee with water slides and obstacle course on the water, sandy beach (but we wouldn't swim in that water)
I went to Metro Beach several times per summer for many years as I grew up in Michigan. Besides laying on the beach and wading in the water, I enjoyed the par 3 golf course and the open air concerts. I enjoyed the long walk to the point where the boats entered Black creek on the way to their docking spaces. I ate many hot dogs and a lot of ice cream at the park. After being married, my wife and I took our young children to Metro Beach quite often, since we lived not far away in Sterling Heights, before we moved out of state.
First time visit to this park was good! Was not able to utilize or explore the whole park as we visited on a late Saturday afternoon, not too crowded surprisingly. Just went fishing and caught a few white bass as well. Kids had fun, will definitely come back again.
We love Metro Park. It's a little expensive for parking, goes up almost yearly it seems. Otherwise a great park, beach is *usually* clean (sometimes the goose poo can be a bit much). My kids favorite is the splash pad, but make sure sunscreen is used! There is only a couple shade areas. We don't use the pool so I can't comment on that! The nature center is nice, my kids enjoy it.
Used to be a much more enjoyable public park. County executive allows shady deals on concessions. No dog ordinances of any kind enforced. Beach lifeguards all fired. Loose large dogs allowed to roam beach. Should yank county & state funding. More amenities offered now. But years of mafia contracts have taken their toll.
