  • It is a decent hike of a few hundred steps. The older people, in front of me, stopped to rest multiple times on the way up. You can either start the hike at the bottom, right across from the Mark Twai...  more »
  • If you want a great of the river and the town, take the journey to the top! You can't go in the lighthouse, but you'll be glad you went up!  more »

  • Nice place for pictures, especially at night! There is a back way to the lighthouse that also has handicap parking and easier access for those unable to walk all the steps. But be warned it's a narrow road the closer you get to the parking spaces! Great way to wear out the kids before you head back to the motel room or get in the car for the drive home :)
  • It's not worth it! The lighthouse is dilapidated and the view is nothing to write home about. Good to get your heart rate up, though.
  • Great views of the city, but only after going up a seemingly never ending amount of stairs. The lighthouse is great too and if you aren't up for the stairs, there is a plaza down below that overlooks the river.
  • A diamond in the ruff. The views are breathtaking. It is worth the walk up the long flight of stairs. Bring your camera!
  • If you’re visiting Hannibal, I would recommend that you start your day at the lighthouse. While they do not allow visitors to go up in the lighthouse, you can walk up to it and see the city and the Mississippi from the view at the base of the lighthouse. Note that there are at least 3 ways to get to the lighthouse. (1) You can take Rock Road - this is a very narrow road that allows traffic both ways - but only one vehicle can go either up/down at a time. This is the way we took, and then walked up those stairs in the photo. (2) Visit the Tom & Huck statue, to the left of the statue are stairs that lead up to the lighthouse. (3) There is a backway to the lighthouse from a residential neighborhood. I am not 100% sure how to get there, as we just walked the path from the lighthouse down to this residential area (this route does not require stairs).
