4.6/5 based on 1,100+ reviews on the web
Hanalei Beach stretches along 3.2 km (2 mi) of sand on the island's northern shore. The largest beach on the island, four separate areas combine to form the bay: Waikoko beach, Wai'oli Beach Park, Hanalei Pavilion Beach Park, and Black Pot Beach Park. Coral reefs beckon people to both ends of the bay. While here, you can go swimming, kayaking, windsurfing, or boating. With waves up to 6 m (20 ft), the bay is also a great place for surfing. Camping is allowed on Black Pot Beach with a permit. See Hanalei Beach and all Hanalei has to offer by arranging your trip with our Hanalei travel itinerary maker.

  • We visited Hanalei Beach twice on our trip to Kauai. Kauai may well be called " The Beach Island" , as it is called " The Garden Island". We visited five beaches. There are many others. Rogue waves ar...  read more »

  • This is a great place to watch the waves and take in the sun. The undertow is strong so swimming is not possible. But this is beautiful.
  • Very private beach. Not many people which makes it nice. There is a lifeguard. The waves are good sized but crash very close to shore since there is a little sand drop off.
  • This is really Waioli Beach Park, named for Waioli Stream, which is the first stream to the west. It is life guarded and has a bathroom and showers. The surf will always be higher here than to the east, at the Hanalei Pavilion, so you will see a lot of surfers in the beach break when the surf is decent- a lot of little kids with great skills, kamikazes really. The big folks will walk down to the Waioli Stream to take off to surf Middles, which is out about a half mile, and features long rides- a big place for long boards.
  • Great stretch of beach. Easy access and ample parking.
  • Nice beach, rainy side of the island. Water seemed a little muddy in the bay. Beautiful mountains surround the bay.
  • Relatively calm with some small waves good for a little boogie boarding and be beginner surfing.
