Took the kids here and I really enjoyed it. It takes about 30 minutes to get through the lava tubes. It's very safe and bug free. It's a very cool temperature which was a nice relief from the heat. Th...  more »

Super cool. Super unique Maui experience. We've been to Maui a lot but this was our first time. Family run, only takes 45 minutes or so... And our four year old loved it.

Mother nature gets an A+ for sure on this one. The set up is fine and easily accessible but $12.50 a head to "cover costs" is a bit excessive considering Mother Nature did all the work save for some railings. The do provide you with some very bright flashlights. All in all, we forked over the $$ and enjoyed our journey into the Lava Tube.

The staff was very nice and open to answering any questions. The signs in the lava tube itself were not to long and very informational. The tube was in good condition and the overall experience was very educational. The fee though is $12.50 per person but they let you borrow a flashlight.

We have plenty of Lava tubes on Big Island, but this was bar far our favorite. Info explaining what you see through the tube and a little of its history made this FAR better than the Thurston tube at Volcano national park in our opinion. We also like that you used flashlights instead of it being all lit up! Made for a nice cooling walk and leg stretch along the Road to Hana!

A must see when visiting Hawaii. Take your time and read the plaques that tell the story. It's something that you will never experience again in your life. I got some really awesome compelling photos. I absolutely love them and my experience.

Where to stay in Hana

Located on the southeastern end of Maui--an island known for featuring lodging options for every type of traveler--Hana boasts a single luxury resort and several more affordable tropical retreats. Expect higher prices if you plan to stay near the water, especially if you want an ocean view from your bed. To stay more economically, consider one of Hana's good-value rental cottages, which make up in simple hospitality what they lack in modern amenities.
