  • A beautiful location even if you're not into Civil War history! I'd wholeheartedly recommend bringing a picnic basket and a blanket when visiting this museum. It's a little hard to find, but it's a really quiet place with great exhibits in the actual museum. The staff is very well informed and really seem to take pride in their museum. Best of all it's free! They're also not in your face about donating, just a little clear box at the end of the museum. There's plenty to see outside as well with little traffic and beautiful architecture all around. The views of the bay are so beautiful. If you want a nice quiet day with the family with a bit of history mixed in, this museum is great.
  • A great free museum showing the history of Fort Monroe. Be sure to walk around the fort afterward as well for some great views.
  • This was a fun place to visit, so much history. It is amazing to see what was built in the early 1800s. I would recommend it to everyone.
  • This is a pretty all right museum. Being inside the fort walls is really cool, and the exhibits are informative. Some letters by Poe showed some unexpected aspects of his personality. The down side of the museum is that there is nothing interactive, and not much to appeal to the little ones.
  • Fantastic museum of the history of Ft Monroe very interesting exhibits and a great learning experience.
