Bully Hill Vineyards is a vineyard and winery located in Hammondsport, New York, United States, in the Finger Lakes American Viticultural Area.HistoryIn 1920, the Taylor Wine Company needed room to expand as well as consistent sources of electricity and water. The Winery was moved to a location two miles outside of Hammondsport and the original property, where Bully Hill sits today, was sold to a Lloyd Sprague. In 1958, Greyton H. Taylor and Walter S. Taylor bought back the property from Sprague and established Bully Hill Farms. Greyton and Walter began converting the Native American grapes on the land to French-American hybrid grapes, pioneering those varieties in New York State. Over the next 12 years Walter and Greyton slowly built a winery on location and in 1970 Bully Hill Inc. was established. Walter represented the third generation of his family to be involved in grape growing and wine making, a family endeavor since 1878. Bully Hill was one of the first small estate wineries in the Keuka Lake area since Prohibition. During Prohibition the winery sold grape juice in small wooden barrels. A label was placed on the barrel giving explicit instructions on how the juice would turn into wine if precautions weren't taken.

  • My Son and I went there on June 22,2017. for a nice lunch..It was the 5 year anniversary of my husbands death..he was only 48! I ordered a steak salad and ask for it to be cooked medium..however it was rare..and very thick pieces of sirloin.I cut a piece in half..chewed..And then it happened..it got stuck" my airway was completely blocked..I stood up.tryed to cough it up..but it went down even further..I looked around for help holding my neck with my arms up..pointing at my neck..no air..not even thru my nose..very scared.and wonderful young woman..said I'm a PA! She started the hymlic on me..it wasn't helping..my son who is 19 was so scared..it took her 8 times..to get it out.She saved my life..omg..I was very upset crying dizzy..all they offered was water..after I calmed down..we decided to leave..the then said here is your bill, are you kidding me..$24 for a salad that almost killed me..and my son never ate his lunch..I told a manager at Bully Hill..your lucky..I'm not suing..and left..what a terrible place..no compassion..for there guest or remorse..very expensive for food..don't bother..And thank you Stephanie for saving my life..
  • I'm a red wine fanatic! Best I've had to date. Highly recommended for red blend drinkers!! Red table wine is outstanding. Love My Goat can't get any better for price and quality!
  • One of my regular stops along the Keuka wine trail. Great wine, great location, great views.
  • Really loved this winery. Our short stay in the Finger Lakes only allowed us to venture to wineries in the Canandaigua region and a bit into Keuka Lake, but this was definitely our favorite across all we visited. I don't recall our server's name unfortunately but she was absolutely wonderful- fun to talk to and super knowledgeable about Bully Hill's history and wines. It was $1 to taste any wine outlooking a perfect view. We stuck with the drier wines and they were all pretty great. We bought the Meat Market Red and Verdelet, both of which were probably the strongest reds and whites we've had in all our visits in taste AND price. I went during off season.. but it was nice to have the tasting area to ourselves. Only downside was the restaurant being closed, but given all the positive things we've heard, we can't wait to make another trip up and come back!
