Waimea Bay, Haleiwa
(4.7/5 based on 700 reviews on the web)
Featuring large waves and surfing competitions, Waimea Bay hugs a powdery beach bordered by tropical greenery. Depending on the weather, the ocean can be completely calm, or you can encounter 15 m (50 ft) waves. Visit the beach to lounge in the sun or have a picnic, or walk through the nearby gardens and look at the waterfalls. When the water is calm, you can also swim and snorkel. Beware of the local tradition of rock-jumping--although many visitors do it, the local authorities strictly advise against it. Parking space at the site is very limited. Put Waimea Bay on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Haleiwa vacation builder.

  • Beach on the North Shore and then with two completely different types of sea between summer and winter. In summer, the sea is calm and clear, among the most beautiful of Oahu. In winter is popular with surfers of the most reckless, daredevils in riding high waves. The beach is large and very busy, but there is room for everyone. There is also a rock popular with divers. Advice to park at the entrance of the Waimea Valley. In short: beautiful sea (summer) beautiful nature, but among the least Oahu's tropical, for the lack of Palm trees and white sand.

  • Surfing and body boarding is serious here. The waves are huge, and it makes for quite a spectacle! Parking might be difficult here, depending on the time of your visit.
  • I love Waimea Bay! Such a great beach. I love the big surf in the winter and calm waters in the summer. Big beach, nice sand. Parking sucks, just not enough parking for such a big beach. But other tha...  more »
