Laniakea Beach, Haleiwa

(4.4/5 based on 700+ reviews on the web)
Laniakea Beach may be one of Oahu's top surfing spots, but its star attraction remains the native "honu," the green sea turtles. The seaweed growing on the rocks scattered around this small beach is a source of turtle food, and you can often spot these creatures just basking in the sun or sticking their heads out of the waves. Although they don't seem to mind the incessant throngs of camera-toting tourists, state and federal laws protect these turtles, so remember that you cannot handle them. To learn more about their habits and peculiarities, approach one of the volunteers providing information and patrolling the beach. • This is my favorite beach. It gets crazy busy, but beautiful to come early and watch the sunrise and enjoy the peace and quiet before it fills up. The sand is the best on the island in my opinion and ...  more »
  • Spending a day on the North Shore should not be without a visit to Laniakea Beach, also known as Turtle Beach. We were lucky enough to see a giant green sea turtle resting on the beach near some rocks...  more »
  • No turtles on the day we visited, but I got to meet neat volunteers who are turtle guardians who knew a lot about turtles. The beach is beautiful, but has really strong surfs. Not a great swimming or ...  more »

  • We stopped to see some turtles and found a couple sun baking on the beach. Seeing all the tourists on the beach surrounding the turtles I couldn't help but feeling that we are invading their space. If you want to see turtles I suggest go and see them in a zoo and leave these ones in peace.
  • Laniakea (Turtle) Beach is beautiful! I've only been twice, but it's amazing to see the turtles lounging out on the shore, in their natural habitat. Sadly they are still crowded by lots of people, and are guarded by rope so no one touches them. The beach itself is also gorgeous. Good location to stop by if you're at the North Shore.
  • So awesome. Wasn't expecting to see Turtles here after hexing great luck spotting Sea Lions at the west point but low and behold I saw at least 12 different Turtles. Please be respectful and give the Turtles space and DO NOT TOUCH the Turtles. That way generations can enjoy the same beautiful experience that you will
  • Was so excited got to see the Sea turtles in their natural habitat. . Amazing beach! !
  • If you want to just enjoy the beach or watch surfers go to the east side of the cove. If you want to watch people invade turtle space and take photos with them stay on west side.
