This was an interesting stop on I40. The cross is very large. There are a few other things to look at outside. It's typically ridiculously windy in that area. They have a nice large gift shop with res... more »

Loved it. Could see it from the interstate. It stands proudly amidst the barren land. Of course in this part of the country, you can see for miles! more »

We stopped here as planned on Wednesday after Easter. Very awe inspiring spiritually. The cross itself is a beacon to help direct you to all that lies at it's base. So don't just drive by on I-40. Go ... more »

This was a beautiful place to get out and stretch our legs for awhile. Our dogs were able to get out as well. There were probably 20 other people there at some point or another during our visit. I would recommend this for any traveler wanting to get out and walk bit. My family and I spent about 30 minutes there and saw everything except the gift shop. This is probably the only rest stop I would describe with the word "reverence".

The person who took the time and money to leave this here really did have a vision. The gift shop is a pretty typical Christian gift shop, as there's no specific merchandise related to the place. Here, you can see the story and legacy of Jesus Christ, as well as more Christian related statues and such (like St. Michael, Ten Commandments). As well, they offer more services for the people living there like spiritual enrichment and etc. TIP: Not many people notice, but after the three crucifixes, there's also Jesus' burial (unfortunately without his cloth) to complete the entire visit. Obviously an amazing photo op place, and the big cross is still visible from the Interstate Highway. You could see it at least when you're near the Leaning Tower of Texas!

Was there in summer of 2001. The people there let us park our rig over night. We spent the night with access to restroom. Very grateful to them. It's nice to see the progress.

This place is amazing and breath taking! The tomb made me speechless. The pain and agony he went through for me and you!

I'm not Christian, I'm actually Jewish. But it was really fun crossing country for the first time alone and to randomly come across this impressive monolith. A plaque on site claims it to be "the largest cross in the Western Hemisphere." It's 19 stories tall and visible from 20 miles away, but still shorter than 3 other crosses, one in Florida, Illinois, and finally Spain (technically Western Hemisphere). Even as a non Christian, I still really enjoyed this landmark. I'm sure those of the Christian faith will find this location very inspiring. Be sure to stop at this location if you're taking a long trip through Amarillo and Groom, Texas!
