Where to stay in Grand Rapids

Only five hotels provide lodging downtown, but each charms its guests with a distinctive character. A small collection of bed and breakfasts and inns populate Old Town. These hotels are a five-minute walk from the city's main attractions, top restaurants, and conference centers, so they tend to fill up fast. Book a room early to ensure you get the lodging of your choice. There are also hotel chains near the airport and in residential areas; public transport and taxi service link these to the city's downtown.

  • Awesome place. Better to go first thing in the morning because it's a little messy in the afternoon, but that's understandable and kids really don't care that it's not completely organized by midday. Plenty of fun exhibits for all types of interests. Not too crowded either. Clean facility. Fair amount of parking nearby, just a few on the street right outside of the museum. Overall fun experience.
  • This is such a great place for families. We took our nearly two year old daughter on Mother's day and she had so much fun. They hand a bunch of hands on play centers to be explored at your own pace. I was expecting a ton of people and some roudy play but it was surprisingly calm and laid back. 5 Stars, will go again.
  • We have been here several times and had a great time. The staff here is and has been great with both my 2 and 9 year old. There were several employees playing with my kids. My son played with a staff member for a hour or more with the train sets building all different track options. My daughter played grocery store with a couple of staff members for a while and she loved it. Yes there is a lot of kids but I mean it is called the children museum after all. Yes it can get chaotic at times however I feel as it is not a museum problem as much is it is a parental problem. I have read several of these reviews and I can't say that I agree with them. (except the one about it being a place for stay at home moms to dump their kids and hang out on their phones, but again not a museum problem) My family and I love this place and WILL be back soon.
  • Very wonderful place to take children. Part of the museum is a rotating there and the rest is still always a lot of fun for children. A lot of stimulus and a safe environment. Who doesn't like playing with gaint bubbles
  • We had an awesome time! I didn't ask when we got there, but it is free for a birthday child, and they get a little free prize. (They were willing to refund me if I had paid, I actually had a pass so she had already gotten in free!) My daughter was turning 3 and we spent a rainy few hours here with her 8 month old sister and three busy cousins (1, 3, and 6). There are just so many cool toys to play with. Since it was a Thursday during March and not Spring Break :) - it wasn't too busy. We went right about 12:30 and stayed for 2 hours or so and there weren't all that many people there. All of the employees were helpful and active.
