  • Came to Grand Rapids to see the Meyer May House but so glad we stumbled upon this. It's huge!! We walked around the grounds for 2 hours and still ran out of time for the sculpture garden. The Children...  more »

  • Great place to just hang out and see all the different plants! Every time I go there's always a different set up with different plants! You can find your inner peace in the Japanese Gardens or sail you boat on Lake Michigan in the children's garden. Walk across a board walk and see many animals Or refuel with great tasting food (defiantly better than cafeteria food)!
  • Absolutely love this place! The workers have a lot of knowledge on the sculptures and exhibits. It is breath taking with many garden scenes. My favorite was the Japanese garden and the second was the sculpture garden. You can ride trams, but I personally would walk to get the full experience! Plus you will miss out on sculptures that are hidden around turns that the tram can't drive to. Advise you to pack a backpack with sandwiches and drinks but they do have a refreshment area and convenient water fountains/bathrooms. Even if you don't have children go to the children's garden! Didn't see it all but what I did was so fun. They have wheel chairs if you want to bring an elder with you as well. Will go again!l
  • Totally sucks. They measure your chairs for concerts for what? Don't want them too high for what? They have yardsticks and actually measure every single chair for seat height and back height and if they pass put a band on them. Then they let everyone stand during the concert. Impossible to see the band or even any part of the stage. Never ever coming back and wouldn't recommend this venue. If I just wanted to hear music and not actually see the band I could have stayed home.
  • Beautiful and fun outdoor options for adults and little ones. Butterfly exhibit is a must visit. I'd love to see more indoor options for little ones but the treehouse and water table (shaped as the Great Lakes) are always a hit with my children. Absolutely amazing areas for a nice walk or run with the stroller.
  • Very interesting and fascinating art pieces! Tram tour and guide were excellent and well worth the $4 fee. The Japanese garden was truly remarkable. Great way to spend the day as part of our vacation.

Where to stay in Grand Rapids

Only five hotels provide lodging downtown, but each charms its guests with a distinctive character. A small collection of bed and breakfasts and inns populate Old Town. These hotels are a five-minute walk from the city's main attractions, top restaurants, and conference centers, so they tend to fill up fast. Book a room early to ensure you get the lodging of your choice. There are also hotel chains near the airport and in residential areas; public transport and taxi service link these to the city's downtown.
