Tusayan Museum, Grand Canyon National Park

Step back to the 12th century to the time of the Hopi tribe and Ancestral Puebloan civilization at Tusayan Museum. A small, u-shaped pueblo first excavated in 1930 bears witness to a living room, storage room, and religious ritual room (or kiva). The site was believed to have been inhabited for 20 years, and was first inhabited in 1185, according to tree rings. This testament to a people long ago is located within the Grand Canyon National Park and is considered to be a major archaeological site. A short trail connects the ruins to the more recent museum, which showcases additional artifacts and shares interpretations about the Hopi culture. Visitors can choose to explore both on their own, or gain the help of a knowledgeable park ranger. • Definitely worth a stop when in the park. It's an easy walk for anyone, and there's a view of My. Humphreys in the distance. The ruins are in a very compact area
  • Great view of the mountain across the valley, used to be a sacred spot. Ruins are small but worth a trip!
  • Nice historic spot with an interesting story. Not big but worth a short trip

Where to stay in Grand Canyon National Park

You'll find plenty of options if you want to stay inside Grand Canyon National Park. Most campgrounds and lodges sit around the South Rim area, and they tend to fill up quickly for summer visits, so book as far in advance as possible. The price range for lodge accommodations varies greatly, so there's something for nearly every budget. The less-visited North Rim features one lodge. For those who hike to the bottom of the canyon, dormitories and cabins are available at Phantom Ranch. If you can't secure a place in the park or find something there to your liking, the small village near the south entrance offers inns and economy motels. You’ll have the convenience of nearby restaurants if you stay there.
