Rim Trail, Grand Canyon National Park

4.9
#3 of 9 in Trails in Grand Canyon National Park
For a non-strenuous hike along the inner canyon coupled with unrestricted views of the spectacular gorge, try Rim Trail inside Grand Canyon National Park. The park, a World Heritage Site, has made hikes along this trail easier thanks to the well-managed, paved terrain. You can appreciate the remarkable views of the 1.6 km (1 mi) deep canyon cut by the Colorado River from any of the viewpoints along the trail. The full trail is 21 km (13 mi) trail, but if you get tired beforehand, there are shuttles that run from various points along the trail throughout the day. For a memorable end-of-day view, head to Hopi Point to watch the sunset. The park urges you to carry water at all times, and remember to wear good walking shoes. You should plan to walk as much as you can, because each turn offers a different view. We most enjoyed the Trail of Time section, which had the least people and was away from buildings. Include the Ya...  more »

Absolutely recommended. Only huge crowds were on the shuttle buses. Got in early each day. Parked at the National Ranger Headquarters and accessed the trail from there walking both directions. Day two...  more »

Great trail. Here's the summary to give an idea. 15:00 departure by bus to hermit rest. We joined the pima point on foot. We take the shuttle up to mohave point and then we finish the back foot until the El Tovar hotel. It is 19:00. Record 6.4 km has feet. Namely the shuttle go stop has all the points but on the way back there is only 3. Look on the map that is provided at the entrance of the Park. Balande without difficulty.

Where to stay in Grand Canyon National Park

You'll find plenty of options if you want to stay inside Grand Canyon National Park. Most campgrounds and lodges sit around the South Rim area, and they tend to fill up quickly for summer visits, so book as far in advance as possible. The price range for lodge accommodations varies greatly, so there's something for nearly every budget. The less-visited North Rim features one lodge. For those who hike to the bottom of the canyon, dormitories and cabins are available at Phantom Ranch. If you can't secure a place in the park or find something there to your liking, the small village near the south entrance offers inns and economy motels. You’ll have the convenience of nearby restaurants if you stay there.
