Powell Point, Grand Canyon National Park
(4.8/5 based on 160+ reviews on the web)
Enjoy a spectacular view of the sunset from Powell Point. Climb the top of the formation, and observe as the sun falls behind the red rocks in the distance. Witness how the light hits the canyon, and how it changes hues, from red and orange, to dark brown. Read the plaques that stand next to the path, on the way to the point, and learn about the man it was named after, and other interesting facts. Wear hiking shoes as the terrain can be difficult to manage. Plan to visit Powell Point and other customer-reviewed, writer-recommended Grand Canyon National Park attractions using our Grand Canyon National Park vacation planner.

  • In addition to the beautiful canyon views this stop on the Hermits Rest shuttle has a monument to John Wesley Powell whose expedition ran the Canyon in 1869 and 1871.
  • I'm not sure what more I can say about the whole Grand Canyon experience. There isn't a bad view anywhere in this park!
  • This viewpoint is a short walk from Hopi Point. There is a very nice view of the canyon from this point and there is some interesting history associated with this location as described on the signboar...  more »

  • This was our favorite place on the whole south rim. Not a lot of people, so we were able to spend a good amount of time enjoying the quiet and the view. If you don't have a whole lot of time, catch the bus to Powell Point!
  • The best thing about this point is the small path that extends into the canyon. There is a raised platform at the end of the path that allows a very good 360 view of the area.
  • Great view point...another one...of the canyon. Interesting memorial to Powell.
  • Views and more views! This is on the red route and is a great place to starting hiking the rim on the south side of the park.
