Powell Point, Grand Canyon National Park

(4.8/5 based on 170+ reviews on the web)
Enjoy a spectacular view of the sunset from Powell Point. Climb the top of the formation, and observe as the sun falls behind the red rocks in the distance. Witness how the light hits the canyon, and how it changes hues, from red and orange, to dark brown. Read the plaques that stand next to the path, on the way to the point, and learn about the man it was named after, and other interesting facts. Wear hiking shoes as the terrain can be difficult to manage. • We stopped at all the points along the South rim and this one and Desert View are my favorite. A nice tribute there to Mr. Powell also.  more »
  • The point closest to the center of visitors from the South is trim and which I liked more. It very nice view!

  • This was our favorite place on the whole south rim. Not a lot of people, so we were able to spend a good amount of time enjoying the quiet and the view. If you don't have a whole lot of time, catch the bus to Powell Point!
  • The best thing about this point is the small path that extends into the canyon. There is a raised platform at the end of the path that allows a very good 360 view of the area.
  • Great view point...another one...of the canyon. Interesting memorial to Powell.
  • Views and more views! This is on the red route and is a great place to starting hiking the rim on the south side of the park.
