Powell Point, Grand Canyon National Park

(4.8/5 based on 160+ reviews on the web)
Enjoy a spectacular view of the sunset from Powell Point. Climb the top of the formation, and observe as the sun falls behind the red rocks in the distance. Witness how the light hits the canyon, and how it changes hues, from red and orange, to dark brown. Read the plaques that stand next to the path, on the way to the point, and learn about the man it was named after, and other interesting facts. Wear hiking shoes as the terrain can be difficult to manage. • Awe inspiring and grand silence this time of year at the Canyon. A light snow fell the evening prior, so upon our arrival these trees were photo ready.
  • It has beautiful views of the Grand Canyon from Powell Point, which can easily be reached by shuttle bus. It is worth here walk to the nearest bus stop to go. The views are just terrific.

  • In addition to the beautiful canyon views this stop on the Hermits Rest shuttle has a monument to John Wesley Powell whose expedition ran the Canyon in 1869 and 1871.

  • This was our favorite place on the whole south rim. Not a lot of people, so we were able to spend a good amount of time enjoying the quiet and the view. If you don't have a whole lot of time, catch the bus to Powell Point!
  • The best thing about this point is the small path that extends into the canyon. There is a raised platform at the end of the path that allows a very good 360 view of the area.
  • Great view point...another one...of the canyon. Interesting memorial to Powell.
  • Views and more views! This is on the red route and is a great place to starting hiking the rim on the south side of the park.
