North Rim Visitor Center, Grand Canyon National Park

4.7
#2 of 11 in Nature in Grand Canyon National Park
Part of one of the world's Seven Natural Wonders, North Rim Visitor Center provides an inspiring and remarkable landscape without the massive crowds of the South Rim. Begin your trip at the visitor center, where you can pick up maps and brochures, talk to a ranger, and view exhibits about the canyon. One of the best ways to experience all that the North Rim has to offer is a hike through its wild and breathtaking scenery. If you'd rather not get that much exercise, cruise the scenic drive. Temperatures here are generally lower than the South Rim due to its greater elevation, so bring a sweater. North Rim guided mule treks are easier to book than South Rim mule trips, which generally must be booked 13 months in advance. • I've been to the South Rim from Arizona, but this terrain and view was totally different. The rock formations were beyond incredible, and I have always said there are no photos that do the real thing ...  more »

  • You get there by car by the only road (67) by crossing some bison on the way. The charred forests are reminiscent of the fire of 2000. We arrive at the visitor center as well as our grand canyon lodge north rim hotel which is on the edge of the cliff. This site is bcp less frequented than south rim, wilder. the views are more divided and you have to take the car to reach them. some ballads are very nice. To stay in the evening on the terrace of the restaurant and to have this view of the canyon is a lasting memory. Take the short course (500m) close to the hotel which allows you to have a bird's eye view of the grand canyon without doing bcp walking. be careful if you have children because the path is really at the edge of the canyon (but protected anyway).

  • I’ve travelled quite a bit between national parks. North Rim Grand Canyon Visitor Center was the nicest and friendliest I have been to (that’s really saying something considering how nice they all are). Consider contributing to the Grand Canyon Conservancy for discounts at visitor centers across the country, and just to help protect this amazing piece of land. I haven’t hiked a park before that made me so afraid, the heights are truly terrifying and awe inspiring at the same time.
  • Most people spend all their time at the Grand Canyon on the South rim. I think the views of the North time are better and it's usually a lot less crowded. If you're looking for more of a natural experience I would recommend the North rim. If you're more into the tourist side of the Grand Canyon then the South rim is better. Both are fantastic though
  • The north Park ranger did not offer additional information when asked a question. The Rangers at the south rim are better, you ask them one question and they just go on and on with information that is helpful with what you need to know. Also the employee at the north rim gift shop was not very friendly it seemed like he did not want to be there.
  • I've been to both south and north rims. They both are amazing places to witness the grandeur/power of nature. However north has the draw that south just can't replicate. I can't wait until the next time I'm back on the north side of Grand canyon.
  • Harder to get to but worth every penny, you gotta check the north rim, its the complete opposite from the south rim in every way. At the visitor center, you get majestic views off the back balcony overlooking the canyon with trail heads just moments away. The lodge has a lot to offer so take a moment to explore.
