Mohave Point, Grand Canyon National Park

Lookout · Hidden Gem · Tourist Spot
Located on Grand Canyon's South Rim, Mohave Point offers beautiful panoramas of terraced cliffs that encircle the Abyss, sandstone plateaus, and meandering Colorado River. One of nine lookout points along the rim, ideal for watching sunset and sunrise, this spot actually consists of several individual overlooks and is never crowded. If you look directly below the point, you'll see a red sandstone mesa with jagged edges resembling alligator's horny scales. The site is accessible from scenic Hermit Road by foot, bicycle, and free shuttle bus. • I hiked to Mohave Point from The Abyss. When I arrived, I was greeted with the most sweeping view of the Canyon of all the stops I made along the South Rim. The overlook at Mohave Point offers a more....  more »
  • This was one of our favorite vista points along the South Rim. Spectacular views. The 1 mile walk between Mohave and Hopi Point is well worth experiencing. Easy to reach on the red shuttle.  more »
  • This is a good hike out to Mohave Point, with some excellent other viewing points on the way out from Grand Canyon Village. It is a 3.9mile hike out, so a round trip of 7.8 miles. If you have a...  more »

  • We had a wonderful time so nice and clean.. the stuff is very friendly and helpful. Fantastic, stunning .
  • We were caught in a thunderstorm here and it was so awesome! The view of the wall of water coming our way was amazing. The lightening cracked across the sky a few times and that will get your attention! They ended up diverting extra buses out toward Hermets Rest to evacuate everyone. We finally made it onto the 5th bus after sheltering under a low tree. Quite the adventure!!
  • Mohave is the most amazing place in the park to watch the sun rises or set. You have 360° views of the canyon and amazing shots of the Colorado River from above. It's truly the perfect photo. Book yourself a sunset tour to finish out the day, you'll be glad you did.
  • Another one of the stops where one can enjoy gorgeous views of the Grand Canyon. I would say that you should stop at them all. Be sure to pack snacks and fluids - you will want both! Please, please take your litter with you and help preserve the the view for others.
  • Watching the sunset from here was awesome. Watching the shadows rise up the walls behind us were super cool as well. Must do and see for yourself!
