Lookout Studio, Grand Canyon National Park
Categories: Architectural Buildings, Gift & Specialty Shops, Shopping, Tourist Spots
Built on a rock ledge suspended over the Grand Canyon's south rim, Lookout Studio offers some of the best vantage points of the famous landmark. Listed on the National Register of Historic places, the 1914 studio is one of seven buildings in the canyon designed by famed architect Mary Colter, who strove to blend the structure with its natural surroundings using local stone and wood. Explore the building's historic interior, featuring various informative exhibits and a film, and then use the coin-operated telescopes on the outdoor terraces for up-close inspection of the natural spectacle around you. A paved trail nearby makes a great spot to watch for the California condor--North America's largest land bird and a rarity in the skies. The birds use the thermal updrafts of air to cruise along the cliffs. If you're looking for souvenirs, check out the on-site gift shop. You can do a little shopping or just walk out and get some photos. Stone building is great for those who like architecture.
Great place to take photos and shop at the same time. There is an upstairs with balcony for some excellent photo ops!
Лукаут с прекрасными видами на каньон. Много времени остановка не займет, но фото красивые получите и ракурс на каньон хороший. Лучше всего на каньон смотреть, конечно, не в полдень, а рано утром, либ... read more »Lookout with spectacular views of the Canyon. A lot of time stopping will not take, but photos beautiful and get perspective on Canyon good. Best on Canyon watch, certainly not at midday, and early in the morning or late at night when there is no haze and colors seem deepershow original
Pretty neat little miniature castle type place that overlooked the canyon with some pretty amazing views. Was nice to just hang out there for a bit away from the hustle and bustle of the lodge. It had several layers of viewpoints that got increasingly further out over the canyon. Really nice.
The views from the back of the shop are awesome, done of the best at the south rim. The shop itself also has some cool items and is pretty affordable.
Truly beautiful. From here you can see quite a lot of the canyon, and it's in air-conditioned comfort! Plus, they have a guide so you know what you're looking at. Also, a gift shop.
Nice little look out area of the grand canyon, but a little crowded.
Good photo spots where you can set the camera on the highest floor with your people on the lower floors.
