Lipan Point, Grand Canyon National Park

Check out the sights from one of the Grand Canyon's best viewpoints, Lipan Point. Located on the South Rim, the spot affords magnificent views of the Unkar Creek area in the inner canyon. Take binoculars and try to spot rafters on the river. The vantage point also serves as a trailhead for a long and fairly easy hike popular with tourists. Always exercise caution when entering the canyon due to dangerous weather and wildlife. We last visited Grand Canyon 10+ years ago. Either we missed Lipan Point last time, or it is a newer viewing point. The interesting features of this point somehow spoke to me in ways other Canyon view...  more »

This point should be reached by car. We'll see from here the Canyon from a slightly different perspective, view, as any on the Canyon, it is impossible to describe.

Excellent view of painted desert. Don't skip this stop. Good place to see the sunset.

We watched sunset here and it was very good. Gets crowded so get there early for parking and a good spot.

Beautiful View from the south rim. Keep going to you get just before the desert tower. That is my favorite view point from the south rim

Amazing views as far as you can see. This is when you realize how truly small you are in the vast of Grand Canyon.

Where to stay in Grand Canyon National Park

You'll find plenty of options if you want to stay inside Grand Canyon National Park. Most campgrounds and lodges sit around the South Rim area, and they tend to fill up quickly for summer visits, so book as far in advance as possible. The price range for lodge accommodations varies greatly, so there's something for nearly every budget. The less-visited North Rim features one lodge. For those who hike to the bottom of the canyon, dormitories and cabins are available at Phantom Ranch. If you can't secure a place in the park or find something there to your liking, the small village near the south entrance offers inns and economy motels. You’ll have the convenience of nearby restaurants if you stay there.
