The Kolb Studio clings to the edge of the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, in Grand Canyon Village, Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona. The Grand Canyon Association operates an art gallery, bookstore and information inside the building. The bookstore's proceeds go to support the building, and the store features a tribute to the Kolbs’ photographs of mule riders at Grand Canyon. The start of the Bright Angel Trail is to the west of the Kolb Studio.HistoryIt was the home and photographic studio of pioneers Emery and Ellsworth Kolb. Begun in 1904, the building has evolved through two major additions and countless minor changes during its century of existence at Grand Canyon. The evolution and survival of Kolb Studio is also the story of its builders, Emery and Ellsworth Kolb.Restoration projectDuring 2013 and 2014, the Grand Canyon Association is in the process of restoring and rehabilitating this significant building of the Grand Canyon's 20th century history. Work includes addressing the structural degradation of Kolb Studio by: *a) rectifying drainage problems from public sidewalks and corresponding retaining walls, *b) stabilizing the concrete entranceway to assure safe continuing access to the facility *c) repairing and replacing exterior building features (e.g. log and shingle siding, structural beams, gutters, wooden porches) in order to assure long-term structural integrity of the building and *d) protecting restored exterior surfaces with paints, sealants and other coatings.Put Kolb Studio into our Grand Canyon National Park vacation route planner to see other points of interest to visit during your vacation in Grand Canyon National Park.

An interesting museum to visit for a quick, 20 minute stop. Little-known history about the park, as well as good history info for photography enthusiasts.
A nice little gift shop upstairs with some neat displays downstairs about the life and adventures of the brothers who built it back in the early 1900s.
Great historical site. Plus all the gifts and view!
Good exhibits, but small with a big gift shop.
This is the fine art gallery of the Canyon. In the basement where the Kolb Brothers used to show their hiking the canyon movie there's now fine art. Painting sculptures and other art items with a southwestern feel.
