Lion's Den Gorge Nature Preserve is a 73-acre public park located in Ozaukee County, Wisconsin, running adjacent to Lake Michigan for 0.7 miles near the village of Grafton and city of Port Washington. It was purchased by the county in 2002 from a private property owner and borders a 44-acre United States Fish and Wildlife Service waterfowl production area. It features over 1.5 miles of gravel and boardwalk trails through white cedar and hardwood forests, wetlands, and Lion's Den Gorge, with some sections of trails offering views of Lake Michigan from atop the nearly 100 foot tall bluffs. Following the "Lion's Den Trail" from the main parking lot takes one all the way through the park, down through the gorge, and finally to the lakeshore. Fishing, hiking, birdwatching, and picnicking are popular activities in the park, and the park contains several diverse habitats for native wildflowers, trees, migratory birds, waterfowl, amphibians and mammals.Photo gallery

  • Love hiking here. Beautiful views and kid friendly. Only reason I didn't rate it excellent is because there are too many people with dogs for my comfort zone.
  • One of our favorite places to walk/hike with stunning views of Lake Michigan and beautiful tree shaded paths. Make sure to take the "Bluff" trails for the best lake views.
  • What an absolutely stunning location. Beautiful views of the lake and the trails through the woods are peaceful and relaxing.
  • Nice hiking area. Very scenic for this part of the lake shore. The dock out into the marsh is a cool place for photos.
  • Well maintained trails, even stairs and bridges. Amazing views. Love the picnic tables that we were able to sit at to have lunch.
  • Fun to walk with all. Pets are allowed on a leash. Great vistas from the bluffs of Port Washington and Milwaukee.
  • Beautiful! It feels like a whole other place than WI! Loved it and hope to go back soon!
