  • Ever wonder where the expression "what the Sam Hill are you doing?" came from? Wonder no more, this impressive museum, out in the remote area of Washington is where this started. 1906, Sam Hill sunk millions to create a mansion and orchard that was well ahead of its time. Now it's a museum, consisting of 4 stories, including Native American artifacts, pictures and stories from Alaska to the east coast. The museum site has a commanding view overlooking the Columbia River.
  • A must visit art and history museum. The scene is lovely. The chess sets are extraordinary. The cafe downstairs has a superb view. This is a rare find in a beautiful area.
  • A historic building. It began as residence but before it's completion it became an art museum. It is full of art ranging from native American to European art. Our favorite is the extensive collection of chess sets from all over the world. If you have never visited it is well worth the trip. Our family likes to visit often. This year was the first time we have ever been allowed to tour the roof of the museum. The view from this vantage point is spectacular. I hope they continue to allow guests to go onto the roof to enjoy the view and learn about the intended use of this space.
  • Was a super fun little stop. The collection is highly impressive. The art garden was a beautiful and quite stroll. Absolutely worth the stop if you are in the area.
  • This museum is located in the historic building. It was originally built by Samuel Hill (who also built this nearby Stonehenge WWI Memorial) as a mansion. However, it was dedicated and opened as a museum instead. It houses an interesting collection of art featuring European and Native American art, including several works by Rodin, and sits on a very scenic plot of land. The building itself is quite beautiful as well. If you're in the area and have not been here before, it's certainly worth the trip.
