  • The museum has an amazing collection. My husband and I both enjoyed the many specimen they had and the way they were displayed.
  • Let’s face it. Much of the draw of Denver – the climate, the outdoor activities, the beauty and the history has to do with its geography and its geology. This museum is a really well-done space offeri...  read more »

  • Free geology museum with samples available for purchase. Great layout, nice exhibits, rare samples, informative staff and great prices on mineral and gem samples. My family enjoys each visit to this museum and purchase nearly all of our non-local personal geology samples from the gift shop. I have been to several geology and mining museums, this is my favorite.
  • This is such a cool museum! It's always cool to go check out all the crazy things that you didn't think rocks could form as!
  • A hidden Gem in the mountains. Love the beautiful rocks. Most impressive are the fluorescent rocks which are rare.
  • Public no cost museum that is great for kids and adults. The hours during school holidays can be variable so be sure to check that they are open. Downstairs has much more interactive kid friendly displays as well.
  • This is a GEM of a museum! Extensive collection of minerals, gems, fossils from all over the world. There are also displays of mining equipment, with a nod to the history of the settlement of Colorado by miners. This museum does a great job of appealing to both children and adults. The mock mine showcasing fluorescent minerals is very interesting. One of the best displays is near a large window overlooking the town of Golden. The information posted by the window describes the geologic processes that formed the Clear Creek area and the town site. There is also a very nice short outdoor trail with large specimens of dinosaur tracks and other geologic wonders. This is a "don't miss" on your list of places to see when in Golden. And it's FREE, though do consider making a donation when you check out the items in the gift shop.
