This is a beautiful hike with scenery and chanterelle mushrooms hunting. Ox a lot cave was beautiful. One of our top hikes in Shawnee National Forest
We go to Rim Rock at least a couple times a year. We really enjoy the hiking and beautiful scenery. Our children ages 7, 15, and 17 love it too. I wouldn't recommend for strollers if you have little o... read more »
Seriously, if you want to see one of the most beautiful paths to hike, visit Rim Rock Rec Area. We don’t really want to tell you about it, because it’s not overly crowded with day hikers, the way a lo... read more »
Very cool place! Not as crowded as Garden of the Gods, but just as pretty, if not more. The trail is overall pretty easy. There is a slightly tougher section at the end of the trail to get to the coolest part - Ox-Lot cave. Make sure to go all the way down to the bottom to see the cave.
My family and I loved exploring Rim Rock and Ox-Lot Cave. We stopped there to have a picnic before heading on to our actual destination of The Garden of The Gods(one of our favorite places), but decided to stay at Rim Rock since it has a wheelchair accessible trail. My grandmother loved that she could go with use on the trail. The flowers and plant life was amazing and the kids liked that there were plenty of places to rest. I wish we had more time to explore the trails that weren't accessible, but the main trail only went so far before we had to turn around due to the steps. It is a wonderful place for the family to visit.
Rim Rock was great! We went in the summer and it was really really beautiful. Exploring the actual area makes you feel like you're in Maze Runner or something. It's kinda small itself, but still cool. There's also an area called Ox Lot Cave which is really massive too. The only con is that during the summer, the path from Rim Rock to Pounds Hollow is covered with all kinds of ticks, spiders, overgrown plants, etc. But it's still awesome!
Beautiful trail with many wildflowers. Make sure to do the "lower" part of the trail. It takes you through some gorgeous sandstone formations.
