  • Beauport, the Sleeper-McCann House, is among the properties owned and operated by Historic New England. It is a unique gem--a charming and variety-filled summer mansion dating back to 1907. Our guide ...  more »
  • Quirky house built in the early 1900's with surprising colorful collections throughout the house. The house used many doors, windows, frames, decorations, etc. from other homes--interesting to see how...  more »

  • This is a beautiful and historic property preserved intact as Mr. Sleeper left it, and he was a very talented and intuitive builder and designer. Most tours are an hour and that is not nearly enough time, but there is a 3 hour "nooks and crannies" tour that is everything you ever wanted to do in a museum. Bring a flashlight and be polite, and careful, but you can open everything, velvet ropes do not apply to you, and there is an ocean view break with refreshments in the middle. I cannot recommend this enough. Amazing!
  • Wonderful! I took a road trip around New England and had been to the lighthouse next to it but didn't know about the house. After a few days I was in Salem and someone told me about it and told me I had to go back to visit, that I couldn't miss it. And it really was a place that is worth going to. It's amazing, full of history and beauty. If ever you're close to it, don't miss the opportunity to visit it.
  • Really enjoyed touring this eccentricly designed, yet pragmatically put together. The guide Steve is very kind and informative. Beautiful grounds and wonderful scenery of the Gloucester harbor.
  • Fascinating home in a gorgeous setting swimming in historical references. Every room has been imbued with decorative detail. Friendly, knowledgeable staff.
  • Great tour - very interesting house with lots of cool architectural details and collectibles both inside and out. We took the hour tour, which was kind of rushed because there was so much to see and learn. We will be back for the 3 hour "Nooks and Crannies" tour!
