  • If you are anywhere near the Arkansas Post, it is worth your time. The memorial has a small museum and is at one of the sites of the Post, which was founded by French explorers as the first trading po...  more »
  • One of the most "history rich" attractions around. Lots of countries thought this was an important place. Even had a civil war battle! To bad the river changed and covered up the fort.  more »
  • As someone who was born and raised in Arkansas, I had wanted to visit Arkansas Post because of its historical significance for my state. I was impressed by the small museum and the film that told a si...  more »

  • Really neat place with a ton of history! The visitor's center closes at 5, but the grounds stay open until dark. Make sure you get there in time to see the twenty minute video; it will give you a great overview of the place. The old town section is interesting - still a foundation or two remaining. Lots of birds all over the park. Saw some armadillos on the nature trail. The bayou trail was scenic; be careful of alligators (didn't see any) and mosquitos! I also heard there are ticks. So, probably double up on the bug spray. The rangers are very nice and were available for all kinds of questions!
  • A very remote National Park Service unit, Arkansas Post National Memorial commemorates the first European settlement built in what is now Arkansas. The site consists of a visitor center, town site and a few short nature trails. The place can be explored in an hour-90 minutes max.
  • Always love going fishing here and watching the gators
  • AWESOME ARKANSAS HISTORY~ My dad started taking me & my cousins there as children, I am now 42 years old & I've taken nieces, nephews, lots of friends over the years & now my husband & I take our son there; he is 6 years old & we are going to start this year taking our nieces & nephews there. Be sure to see it all, the part at the beginning of the road & then the post at the end of the road. My dad worked construction & lived in the area for many many years & would donate artifacts as he found them in the area. Great place to go spend some time & have a picnic. They have a video at the visitors center at the post, only takes a few minutes. I personally like the original one from when I was younger & it was replaced probably 17 + years ago, this one is good too but I personally like the one I grew up on ha ha, nostalgia. Go~Enjoy~Have Fun~Learn~ Experience~Arkansas' first capital!
