Gettysburg Museum of History, Gettysburg

(4.7/5 based on 1,100+ reviews on the web)
Get a sense of Americana from the broad, diverse collection at Gettysburg Museum of History, housing artifacts from the Civil War and World Wars I and II, as well as items associated with U.S. presidents and pop icons. Made famous by the popular television show "American Pickers," the museum is owned and curated by passionate collector Erik L. Dorr. See Civil War memorabilia, such as a frock coat and carbine rifle, as well as some rather bizarre relics, including a lock of Marilyn Monroe's hair and a portion of a car seat stained with JFK's blood. • The displays were amazing and the historical objects were fascinating. You walk around by yourself, but if you have any questions the owner is very knowledgable and willing to answer your questions.  more »
  • Came upon this place by accident and so glad we did. I miss a lot about the old visitors center but this place gave me what I was missing. This doesn't just have Gettysburg relics, there is so much co...  more »
  • We have been here a few times and we still haven't seen everything in this museum, this collection is amazing! Each time we go we spot something we didn't see last time. The collection ranges from war...  more »

  • It's definitely a nice facility. Huge upgrade from what they used to have. There's some neat stuff to see inside and pretty nice videos to explain the battle. Not a fan of the interactive panoramic mural. Waste of time if you ask me. I'd rather just look at the mural because that in itself is pretty amazing. Too bad they got rid of the old storytelling map that took you through the battle. That was the most helpful for anyone who actually wants to understand what they're seeing when they tour the battlefields from an overall perspective.
  • It's a nice to place to visit. The movie is boring but the Cyclorama is awesome. The best part was the employee that looks like General Lee . Come to find out he portrays Lee ....I could of talked to him all day. (swooning) :) And buy a ticket to Eisenhower's farm...it's an interesting time warp.
  • This is one of the most amazing places I've been to lots of cool stuff from many wars and history. Neat stuff like hitler's actual things he used and lincoln's hair. Highly recommend! Great museum keep it up.
  • Unbelievable collection of military artifacts from the Civil War World War 1 World War 2 Korea and Vietnam are exhibited here. Friendly staff. Also other presidential photographs and items are on display. A trip to Gettysburg National Park without visiting the museum would definitely be in incomplete trip. I go there now every time I'm in town. I found out about it from the show American pickers.
  • Really enjoyed the short time I was in the museum. A lot of fun and interesting history going on in there. Make sure you donate to the museum, since it is a private collection, and free to the public. I highly recommend this place to everyone.
