The pass was named for Byron Guanella in 1953. • My best advice is to dress accordingly. The weather changes quickly here in Colorado. The most recent trail we hiked was the Guanella #600. Most sites have it as a moderate hike but I have to tell you...  more »
  • Guanella Pass Summit, at nearly 12,000 feet, is well worth a detour. The road is paved throughout, and the summit area is nicely laid out, with many helpful interpretive signs. The view of Mt. Biersta...  more »
  • This is the back road from Conifer through Georgetown, about an hour long, a paved high altitude pass with some very iconic stops. Lots to see, a few mountain lakes, a great summit with parking spots ...  more »

  • This is a fun drive and great hiking stops along the way. It can get pretty busy with tourists so early, late or cooler weather days is best to avoid the crowds.
  • An awesome drive/hike, albeit one with lots of people. The views of Bierstadt and the Sawtooth are amazing. If you have the time, come here after dark - the star gazing is amazing.
  • Five stars for beauty, took two stars off for the crowds. If you have a 4x4 you can kind of escape the crowds, but good luck. Weekends are nearly unbearable.
  • Beautiful driveable mountain pass with great views.
  • Guanella has awesome disperse camping and great views all right on the river. Love seeing the stars here and tons of shooting stars. Nice hikes all around just start walking you won't be disappointed.
