My wife and I both really enjoyed ourselves at Eagle Ridge . Polite clean and friendly easy to find even when our service to GPS was lost we still found the resort with ease. Everyone from doorman to service reps were very polite personal and professional. The event went without a hitch and we were very satisfied. A++
I would like to first say that in Illinois, there are few more scenic venues for a wedding than the Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa in Galena. The vistas are breath-taking, the grounds are beautiful, and the ballroom is stunning. That being said, I believe the people running the resort are deluded enough to think their venue is so enchanting that their customers won’t notice the bad service they provide. My son was recently married there and here are just a few of the things that went wrong. 1. Our frustration started when we arrived on Friday afternoon, hoping for an early check-in (before 4:00). I e-mailed the reservation desk a week earlier with this request and they suggested we call while still on the road, day-of, to check status. We did and they said they would do their best, but could not promise. When we arrived at the front desk, our room was not ready. We proceeded to the house that my son rented the day before, to visit and help set up for a barbecue scheduled to happen that evening. We attended a short wedding rehearsal at 4:00 (the bewitching hour, apparently!) where the planner assured all involved that she would be available for all aspects of the ceremony/reception. After the rehearsal, we proceeded to our villa at 4:35 to leave our bags in our room. When we arrived, the maid was still in the villa and not even half-finished with her duties. 2. The wedding was scheduled for 4:00 on a Saturday afternoon. As I stated above, check-in is also at 4:00. Is it too much to ask that check-in be scheduled for 3:00 when guests are expected at an event at 4? Apparently, yes. Several friends and family members decided to stay elsewhere, so that they would be able to go there first and change before the ceremony. Perhaps management should consider moving check-out to 11:00, so that they can have rooms ready before their events, or schedule the events accordingly. 3. Between the ceremony and the reception, there was a cocktail hour on another floor, so that the ballroom could be reset for the reception. People left the ceremony and wandered downstairs. The cocktail party was scheduled for 5:00. The ceremony ended at 4:40. Cocktails were not available until 5:00, despite bar staff present behind the portable bar. Guests were standing around for 20 minutes, waiting and trying to figure out what was going on. Management should have accommodated an early start, if necessary – keep things flowing and guests happy. 4. I learned from my son and daughter-in-law, after-the-fact, that the wedding planner was not present for most of the reception (there were 2 other events at the hotel that afternoon). The bride and groom were left searching for answers to questions – where should the receiving line be?, when should we assemble?... I even saw my son seeking an extra table for something – really! You know that they paid dearly to use this venue – they should have been treated like royalty. Hey, Eagle Ridge, if there are 3 events at your venue, you better have an individual for each event to make sure everything’s handled. There should never have been a moment when the guests of honor needed to search for her – she should have been nearby, ready to assist. I will say that the food was good and the servers were splendid. Everyone had a wonderful time, which I suppose is the most important thing. I would NEVER recommend this venue, however, to anyone planning any kind of an event. It’s unfortunate, because it truly is a picturesque setting and the facilities are gorgeous. They need to find someone to run it more efficiently. If you decide to use Eagle Ridge, be aware that you will be settling for better scenery than service.
I was expecting a very nice experience, but was a bit turned off by the villas. They are very out of date and in desperate need of a remodel. Service was very nice and we really appreciated the shuttle. Would stay here again if they updated everything.
My husband and I went to the resort because we had reserved a hot air balloon ride. We had unlucky weather, though, and didn't get to go at any if our 3 possible rides. They were very good about it, though, and did what they could to get us scheduled in other slots (hence the 3 possible rides). The pilot was friendly and professional. Wish we could have flown!
We enjoyed a therapeutic massage from Brooke, and Christy. They were awesome! The spa had a professional appearance, the staff was very friendly, and our masseuses knew exactly what they were doing. All for a very reasonable price. We will be back hopefully very soon.
