  • We stopped in to check out the cabins...went for a hike and decided to stay and fish. Was uncrowded, easy hiking, shaded, and had plenty of picnic spots. Plenty of open areas for us to play games as w...  more »
  • Great location for a party. Very clean, safe and beautiful. Restrooms, playground and pavilion with tables.  more »
  • If you are looking for large campsites, good luck. This park was constructed by a company that has never camped with a decent camper. Most camper sites are too close together. If you have slides in bo...  more »

  • This park should have never been built. It's in a bad location on the river and the cabins nor the campsites are anywhere close to the water. It was Mr. Don Carter's lifelong goal to have a state park on Lake Lanier. Too bad his goal wasn't to have a good state park. Also, this park is not technically on the lake, it is on the Chattahoochee River in some shallow water. Don't expect to see lake when you come here unless you get in a boat and go south for 15 miles. Such a waste of tax payer money.
  • I have camped at most of georgias parks which are excellent. We would not go back to this one though. It is geared for rvs which means most spots are in the sun, very close together and if your tent is bigger than an acorn its going on the asphalt. The walk in tent sites are way back in the woods and are less than ideal. There is not alot of, even much green space at the camp sites unless you are at a walk in... Only a few sites are water accessible and fat chance on getting one. This park is clean, the hosts are helpful and nice but will not return.
  • PARK REVIEW ***** If you love nature and watching the deer at play..this is a great place to go. It has a beautiful beach (a bit larger than most of the state parks we have visited) and beautiful and well maintained facilities at the beach area. If fishing is your thing, again this is the place for you. A fish cleaning station is provided right here at the park. This park deserves five stars for all of the above plus the campground hosts (The Days) were very helpful. Stopping by our first day to let us know if we needed their help where to find them, stopping by to offer help when they saw my husband on the roof of the rv doing some AC repair, informing us which tv channels to expect from the area (did I mention cable TV? Yep..they got that too.) They also told us a couple of lovely local spots for lunch and dessert. CAMPGROUND REVIEW **** The one thing that took a star away from this beautiful park is the layout of the campground. It is a gorgeous campground but has several sites that were not functional for our rig (39 ft. Class A Motor Home). These sites were terraced with stone walls that once our slides were out would not allow access to our outdoor storage due to the fact that you could not open the storage compartment doors. We were told that all sites would accommodate our rig. This was not the case. However, we found a very nice site on the outer rim of the campground that we liked alot..so much that we are still here! :-) The only other negative in this campground for us was that our neighbors picnic area and ours were so close there was no feeling of privacy. All the sites are paved (this reviewer didn't use the primitive campground so this part of the review doesn't include that area) All sites have 30 & 50 amp service, water, hookup and cable. Very clean bathrooms and drinking water fountains. The campground also has a keyed gate for security.
  • Amazing venue this was my first visit and we had a blast no matter what day it was there was always something for the kids to learn about. We will definitely use them again for camping or just a leisure trip.
  • We had a wonderful stay at Don Carter. We were impressed with all the sites, most were very spacious. All the employees were just the best, especially Scott who was really helpful with everything asked.
