  • After reading a ton of reviews online, we decided to tour with Maya’s Legacy while on the island during the week of 3/18. Don’t waste your time looking elsewhere, this company has it figured out. Your experience is their priority and there is no doubt about it. We had the opportunity to head out on 3/19/18 with Capt Jeff and April. The conditions were perfect, the weather was great, and the water was basically glass. In addition to seeing a lot of wild life and learning about the islands, we were fortunate to see the T2C pod off of Stuart Island. We were able to witness this pos during their hunt, and family interaction. It was pretty incredible to see the bond and family structure that exist within the pod. You know it’s a good day on the water when your captain and co pilot are just as excited as you are to see what you’re witnessing. The boat was incredible, not once did anyone feel sick in this stable boat. It was a 12 person boat, and not overcrowded like some of the bigger commercial companies that you see in the water, or some of the really small boats we saw come in from Canada. In short, we came on this trip for one reason, to see whales! Captain Jeff & April were able to make this an exceptional experience, even in the off-season. We’ll definitely be coming back again.
  • Absolutely incredible experience! We were lucky enough to see transient orcas and so many other wonderful species of wildlife. The crew really put effort into making us feel like old friends, and it was the highlight of our trip to Seattle.
  • This was an amazing adventure, a must do when in Washington. The crew, Captain Jeff, Sara and Zoey are very knowledgeable and happy to share and answer questions. On the day of our tour, we saw sea lions, seals and orcas. The whole cruise was extraordinary, we saw a female sea lion nursing a pup among all male sea lions, the crew said this was not seen much and they were very excited about this. We even made another pass of where the sea lions were resting so we could get another look and pictures. We then motored to a cove and watched a family of whales (sorry do not know technical terms) swimming above and below water, blowing and laying at water level (logging, I believe Zoey said this was the term). After watching them for a while swimming the coastline (they were waiting for a family member) they started swimming towards us. The family of whales came within a few hundred feet of the boat, swimming, cresting, blowing and checking us out. It was amazing and very moving to see these whales up close and personal in their own environment and to have crew who knew these whales to answer our questions and let us know things about this family of whales we would have never known or even thought to ask. After the whales were far away from the boat, we then motored off to see some seals resting on a rocky area. For me, this was a once in a lifetime experience and it was incredible, spiritual and educational.
  • Small boat size. Captain and crew were excellent. If you don't want to be on a cattle boat, this is the company for you. Twin hull, very stable. Our best whale watching tour ever.
  • Our captain and naturalist were outstanding. It was partly good luck but, to a considerable measure , it was owing to the skill and determination of the captain that we saw two wonderful groups of orcas, one feeding on seals over near Victoria and one group that chased and caught a porpoise in the strait. Very dramatic feeding behaviors. We also had the fortune to interact with some dolphins, who swam fast under the boat's bow, and we came upon a 4,000-pound elephant seal. The boat is small and we were only four guests, so it was intimate and extremely fun. The trip was in mid-September. I couldn't imagine anything better.
