Bradbury Mountain State Park is a publicly owned recreation area in the town of Pownal, Cumberland County, Maine, managed by the Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry. The state park covers. The park's namesake has been described as a "small, inconspicuous hill, less than 500' high," that despite its size offers panoramic views that make the park one of the more popular ones in the state. The park's multi-use trails, which are used for hiking, snowmobiling and horseback riding, have made it a popular spot for mountain bikers, to whom most trails in the park are open. Hiking is popular during all seasons, including winter. The underlying material of granite and pegmatite is exposed at the summit.HistoryThe park was created in the 1940s as one of Maine's original five state parks after the land was acquired from the Federal government in 1939. The park's borders were extended across Maine Route 9 with the addition of the Knight Woods parcels in the 1990s and 2000s.

  • A great experience for the beginner, intermediate and even novice hikers. Gently sloping enough on the North Trail for the kids and tykes to make it, and steep enough up some trails to give hikers a good sweat on a summer day. This park is a personal favorite for the ornithologists and bird watchers out there. There is a regular group that goes out all year.
  • This is my favorite place to hike and not just because it's close to home! There is a wide range of trail choices and routes. Views from the top are gorgeous, and with the summit trail, you can get there in 10 minutes. Parking is never an issue. Great place for year-round adventures!
  • Well maintained trail system. The summit is one of my favorite leaf peeping/foliage spots in the fall.
  • Great little getaway! It doesn't matter if you are looking for a quick hike up the mountain or a longer one across the street. You will have fun and feel relaxed! Campsites are neat and clean and reasonably priced. Showers are available along with a wash station for dirty dishes.
  • We hike here often and have had some great times with our dogs, friends and family. Beautiful view from the top! Friendly staff at entrance offered us a map! Grounds are kept clean and bathrooms as well.
