Bradbury Mountain State Park is a publicly owned recreation area in the town of Pownal, Cumberland County, Maine, managed by the Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry. The state park covers. The park's namesake has been described as a "small, inconspicuous hill, less than 500' high," that despite its size offers panoramic views that make the park one of the more popular ones in the state. The park's multi-use trails, which are used for hiking, snowmobiling and horseback riding, have made it a popular spot for mountain bikers, to whom most trails in the park are open. Hiking is popular during all seasons, including winter. The underlying material of granite and pegmatite is exposed at the summit.HistoryThe park was created in the 1940s as one of Maine's original five state parks after the land was acquired from the Federal government in 1939. The park's borders were extended across Maine Route 9 with the addition of the Knight Woods parcels in the 1990s and 2000s.

  • You don't need ropes or climbing equipment, just good hiking boots. This is not an endurance contest or a mountain that you have to conquer. It is a climb but a very easy one and well worth it, especi...  more »
  • Very gentle hiking trails to get to the top - rewarded with a fantastic view. Easy 10 minute drive from Freeport. Park fee.
  • Wife and I went thru a couple trails and summit. Great Vistas. Paths are pretty easy to walk. 6 bucks a person for non maine residents. Not too bad. Would be expensive to take my entire family. Enjoye...  more »

  • Awesome for the entire family. We went with a 3 yr old, 7 yr old and 2 people over 70. Something for everyone. Short hikes well marked and described or you can make a longer day of it. The girls go to vistas. Does cost to get in to park but it's well maintained. You know your money is going to a good cause.
  • $6 a person is a bit expensive for a .5 mile hike to the summitt. We ended up summitting multiple times to make it worth it. There is an overlook at the top which is very spacious and nice. They have a great picnic area and rumored mountain bike trails on the east side so it is definitely possible to spend a good part of your day.
  • Some of the trails are quite easy and gentle, and some are challenging, so its a nice mix, and a nice view from the top. There are also one-at-a-time bathrooms which is nice for kids, and a playground and picnic area. There are many interesting mushrooms as well.
  • Living right here in Pownal, the mountain is a handy way to get a quick scamper when time is limited. It's a perfect workout for someone 74 in beautiful surroundings. And it's free after age 65!
  • Gorgeous views with a variety of hikes at all different levels. Very clean, perfect for a picnic.
