Bradbury Mountain State Park is a publicly owned recreation area in the town of Pownal, Cumberland County, Maine, managed by the Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry. The state park covers. The park's namesake has been described as a "small, inconspicuous hill, less than 500' high," that despite its size offers panoramic views that make the park one of the more popular ones in the state. The park's multi-use trails, which are used for hiking, snowmobiling and horseback riding, have made it a popular spot for mountain bikers, to whom most trails in the park are open. Hiking is popular during all seasons, including winter. The underlying material of granite and pegmatite is exposed at the summit.HistoryThe park was created in the 1940s as one of Maine's original five state parks after the land was acquired from the Federal government in 1939. The park's borders were extended across Maine Route 9 with the addition of the Knight Woods parcels in the 1990s and 2000s.

  • Nice state park, not overly large but has a variety of trails with nice views. Trails offer family friendly options as well. Have fun!
  • Met up with a group for a nice quick hike. Nice trail system and some nice views up top. You can take a slower, gentler route or opt for a steeper, faster, more direct route to the top. Certainly a do...  read more »
  • There is a well maintained network of trails here with many leading to the summit which has a nice view. There are many ways to reach the top. We took the shortest but steepest- summit trail at 0.2 mi...  read more »
  • $6 a person is a bit expensive for a .5 mile hike to the summitt. We ended up summitting multiple times to make it worth it. There is an overlook at the top which is very spacious and nice. They have a great picnic area and rumored mountain bike trails on the east side so it is definitely possible to spend a good part of your day.
  • Some of the trails are quite easy and gentle, and some are challenging, so its a nice mix, and a nice view from the top. There are also one-at-a-time bathrooms which is nice for kids, and a playground and picnic area. There are many interesting mushrooms as well.
  • Living right here in Pownal, the mountain is a handy way to get a quick scamper when time is limited. It's a perfect workout for someone 74 in beautiful surroundings. And it's free after age 65!
  • Great easy to moderate hiking trails for the whole family! Very busy on the weekends, so arrive early in the morning or later in the afternoon for a more quiet hike. Very beautiful views from the top especially during the fall foliage season!
  • Decently clean bathrooms, full showers ( if you're into that sort of thing when you camp), near enough to Freeport that you can get into town, but remote at the same time.
