Wildseed Farms, Fredericksburg

The largest wildflower farm in the country, Wildseed Farms is designed to resemble a 19th-century farm. A visitor center welcomes you to the wildflower fields and shares the history of the farm, while a well-stocked shop sells one-of-a-kind flower seeds, apparel, and home decor. Residents stop by for spring gardening supplies, while visitors wander among the garden blooms. The farm brews beer from its homegrown grains and prepares its own specialty food. You are welcome to carry your brew sample with you on the garden tour. Visit the attraction's website for bloom schedules. • Stopped at Wildseed Farms today while driving around to see wildflowers. Friends from Alabama were visiting and we bought wildflower seeds to plant at home. I love this place! It seems to get larger every visit. Great selection of plants and beautiful displays of nature. You can also get something to eat there. All employees are very courteous and helpful. A MUST stop if you find yourself in the area.
  • At first it seems very touristy, which doesn't appeal to me. But all the cute souvenirs, local wine and country-store preserves may really help support Wildseed Farms mission: to collect and preserve heritage seeds from wild flowers and plants. I quickly came in contact with very knowledgeable sales people who clearly have a love for Texan flora. Amidst all the flashy gift and food items were humble copies of valuable information about agriculture in this region. I will definitely return!
  • Wildseed Farms has many neat garden decorations and planters. I really like their seed variety it is not extensive but it is well thought out and it feels like they are tailored specifically to my needs! They have what you would need to begin a butterfly or hummingbird garden and if you only grow organic they have that too AND what surprised me is the organic is cheaper than many of the other seeds!!! They also have walking gardens that are open 9:30AM-4:30PM, one of the employees said that April is the best time to go because everything is in bloom and right now he thinks it all looks dead. I like this time of year because I gather thoughts on how I want to lay out my garden and what I want to plant. When everything is in bloom: 1. it is too late to start many of the things I want to grow and 2. all of the blooms and foliage are distracting and sometimes overwhelming for me. My point with that is even now in the winter this is a great place to check out! And the cashiers were so sweet and engaging they make you feel like you have known them for a while! I hope you have fun! God bless!!
  • Well, it's beautiful and free. Unfortunately some people ignore the signs and insist on sitting in the flowers, so that's probably why they don't allow people in there all the time. The fields of poppies and bluebonnets are stunning, moving even in the case of the poppies with the WW1 connection. It's also a garden center...
  • We went today, and I have to say I was pretty disappointed. The website says visitors are welcome to come and take photos, but all of the fields were fenced off. I was expecting to be able to go among just one of the fields. There was even a field of bluebonnets that had a curvy walking path mown through it, but it was also fenced off. I wish at the very least they had less conspicuous or more attractive fencing instead of the garish yellow fence they have up now. The place itself is pleasant enough, with a walking path that takes you past several fields of (fenced off) flowers. I was just disappointed because I thought it would be a great place to get a few bluebonnet photos with my family. Perhaps they used to allow people to get closer or people are only allowed to get close certain times of the year. It wasn't clear on their website.
