In 2011 Messina Hof Hill Country Winery opened its doors in Fredericksburg, the second largest wine tourism destination in the country. Sitting on nearly 10 acres in the heart of Texas wine country along Highway 290, this winery also has its own vineyard. The Lenoir grapes grown at this location go into the making of more traditional style ports.

Messina Hof Hill Country also offers lodging at the Manor Haus B&B.

  • Messina Hof winery is the third oldest in the state of Texas. Their selection of wines is extensive and outstanding with a focus on Italian varietals as would be expected but also a wide array of wine...  more »
  • Their wines are fantastic. The environment here when we came was very calm, friendly, and not full of crazy kids or party animals. So obviously, we were happy.  more »
  • Everything about our experience here was great. Chris took very good care of us. Loved the wine. Loved everything. This was the highlight of our anniversary trip. A must stop.  more »

  • This was our first and last visit to Messina Hof:( We brought our staff from my dental practice to enjoy some wine for a birthday celebration. Shortly after arriving, we decided to play some music from our phones to listen to while attempting to enjoy poor wine. This seemed perfectly fine since you could barely hear it from outside our group of 15. Caitlin, the GM, was very rude about us wanting to have a fun time at their winery listening to music. The previous 2 wineries had music playing. This place is poorly managed and Caitlin needs to be doing something else for a career since customer service is not her thing.
  • Catlin did a great job with our guest. She knocked it out of the park. My guest said that she taught them alot about wines . My guest could not have said nicer things about Catlin
  • Was surprised when the person at the front desk told us they were too busy for our party of 8 to get a tasting together, and that there was a bus with 50 people about to show up. We ended up buying 4 tastings and shared them. I did enjoy the Malbec enough to buy a bottle, but I will not make this vineyard a priority on my next visit.
  • I've dropped by both times I've visited Fredericksburg but I can't honestly remember anything special about their wine to tell you an honest review. Then of course, we always go here last because they stay open the latest out of all of the wineries we were looking to visit so THAT may be the reason behind the foggy memories... Nevertheless, I always remember having a decently fun time visiting and it has a very relaxed and open tasting room for you and your friends to chill with your flights. Maybe next time I'll start here first.
  • My husband and I love to visit "winery's" in our Texas hill country! Our visit to Messina Hof was the first time and it was quite nice. Most of the employees were good with the exception of the man that was in charge of our "tastings". This gentleman, while not rude, had a very dry personality. We are seasoned wine drinkers and enjoy trying new wines from different establishments. My husband paid for 3 tastings for the both of us to make sure we got to experience several. Honestly speaking, I was ready to leave after this man poured the third sampling. He gave very bad attitude in a job that should be very "customer driven! He even walked away without excusing himself! He just left us standing there!!! Thank goodness that another young man, J.R.Sanchez noticed we were just standing there with empty wine glasses! He was charming and answered all our questions. Truly, a real "people person"! Thanks to J.R., we decided to purchase at least one bottle of wine, even after being upset at being ignored by the other mid-aged, dark haired, man! I mentioned to J.R. of our treatment and he apologised for the ill treatment of his fellow worker. I'm sorry that I did not enjoy the varieties of the wine we sampled. My husband and I thought that they were much too young and needed maturing. We did buy a very nice port at the suggestion of J.R., so we could age in our cellar, but in truth, we just felt compelled to purchase a token "something", because of J.R.'s professional attention to us. I was also impressed with him when I offered to tip him alone only. We are generous tippers when we are given good service. He gave me explained how the "tip jar" works well, for all involved. He made it sound like such a great thing to be making money even on his day off, due to the structure of dividing all the tips, as one large pot that is divided evenly. Our hats off to your company, at having an exemplary, employee such as J.R. Sanchez. He saved the day with his professional demeanor and attention to customer service! Bravo! ***Oh and 2 stars off because of the "rude treatment" by the first man...
