Lotz House Museum, Franklin

4.8
#1 of 23 in Things to do in Franklin
Lotz House Museum tells the story of the talented Lotz family and their home during the American Civil War. A guide will take you through the remarkable house. Admire the intricate carpentry of Johann Lotz and the finest Civil War-era antiques collection in the South. The Lotz house was in the central area of the Battle of Franklin, one of the bloodiest of the war, and you can still see damage from the five hours of fighting. Look for the charred dent in the wooden floor from a cannonball that crashed through the roof. Following the battle, the house served as a hospital for wounded soldiers. Bloodstains are still visible on the floors and walls throughout the house. On your way out, stop by the gift shop, which features DVDs and books about the Civil War, as well as one-of-a-kind antiques and collectibles. . A small civil war era home. A lot of the home has been changed and most the antiques are not original to that home, but probably a good representation of the time period.  more »

Very interesting visit. We learned a ton about the battle of Franklin. Robert, our tour guide was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic, ask for him if possible. I highly recommend visiting the Lotz House.

The house was beautiful! Our guide JT was very informed about the family who lived there, the battle that took place, and the era that they lived in. I learned a lot. I highly recommend this tour.

Great place to take family or friends for a little historical trip with rich civil war history. And our tour guide was from my girlfriends and I’s hometown. Love the staff and the tour.

Where to stay in Franklin

With its brick buildings and small-town charm, the downtown area remains Franklin's biggest draw, but accommodation options here are limited to just a couple inns and bed and breakfasts. You will, however, find many national-chain hotels in the commercial district around where Murfreesboro Road meets Interstate 65. As an alternative, consider staying on a working farm just outside the town center for a more rustic experience.
