Lotz House Museum, Franklin
(4.8/5 based on 2,000+ reviews on the web)
Lotz House Museum tells the story of the talented Lotz family and their home during the American Civil War. A guide will take you through the remarkable house. Admire the intricate carpentry of Johann Lotz and the finest Civil War-era antiques collection in the South. The Lotz house was in the central area of the Battle of Franklin, one of the bloodiest of the war, and you can still see damage from the five hours of fighting. Look for the charred dent in the wooden floor from a cannonball that crashed through the roof. Following the battle, the house served as a hospital for wounded soldiers. Bloodstains are still visible on the floors and walls throughout the house. On your way out, stop by the gift shop, which features DVDs and books about the Civil War, as well as one-of-a-kind antiques and collectibles. . • The tour guide, Robert, was great! So much detail & history. The tour lasted about an hour. Loved it!
  • Many furniture pieces that survived the Battle of Franklin. Tour historian(J.T. Thomas) was quite detailed about the history of the Lotz house. Enjoyed our tour. Worth the money and time.
  • Our tour lasted about an hour. It was just long enough to not take up the whole day and to keep my toddler from getting fussy. It was just enough information to learn about the Battle of Franklin and ...  more »

  • I am a Yankee from Cincinnati. I was born with a passion for the Civil War. During my first visit to Franklin in Sept. of 2016, Mr. Cartwright brings to life the tragic events that took place on Nov. 30, 1864. He is a true master of eloquence. I highly recommend anyone with a remote interest or if you just happened to be nearby, take the time and visit the epicenter of one of America's most tragic events. I am also a veteran of Afghanistan and Mr. Cartwright numerous times during the tour gave honor to me personally and thanked me for my small service to this nation, but I beg to differ in that Mr. Cartwright 's contributions to keeping alive the events and vivid details of the Battle of Franklin and Nashville, has done more fr this nation I love than i could ever so humbly do myself.
  • Great informative, colourful look at the past. JT was an excellent guide. He really knows the history of this home and brings it to life for you! Definitely a great stop to make on your visit to historical Franklin. A must see!
  • A truly wonderful learning experience. Our tour guides very were knowledgable and each room in this civil war era home held new facts to be discovered regarding the Lotz family and the battle at Franklin. Eye opening.
  • We bought a group on that out the carnton plantation, carter house and lotz house together and it was awesome. The woodwork in the lotz house was amazing. Our tour guide was very passionate and was very thankful for our visit. Would recommend everyone to do this!
  • So much history. Jean was a great guide!
