Mason's Ruby & Sapphire Mine
Historic Mason's Sapphire Mine was originally owned by the Mason family in 1942. It was operated as a commercial abrasive mine. The beautiful purplish pink sapphires were an added bonus! For years now The mine has been operated as a dig your own dirt sapphire mine. Mason's Sapphire Mine is one of only 3 mines in Macon county offering native sapphire dirt. Just last year a 129.5 carat sapphire was found by Mike Taylor from Indiana! On an average day customers find between 10 and 60 total carats. Adults $30, ages 6-11 $15, 5 and under mine for free! Groups of 10 or more $25 per person. Primitive camping is available for only $10 a night. RV sites with electrical hook ups $15 a night. All campsite prices include 2 adults, additional adults are $5 each. Children are free! Sorry but there is no water hookups or dumping station available at this time. Porta potties are on site and maintained daily. Cold drinks, snacks, ice cream, lunch items, t shirts, souvenirs, fire wood etc... available in mine store.Plan your visit to Mason's Ruby & Sapphire Mine and a wealth of other attractions, well-known and undiscovered, using our Franklin day trip site.

What a lovely experience. John was so kind and helpful and helped us have a wonderful time! The kids shared an enhanced bucket, which kept them busy for almost an hour. We didn't allow enough time to.... more »

After visiting a different mine that I had a terrible experience with, I tried one last time and ended up here and was SO glad I did! From the moment I walked on property, it was beautiful. There... more »

Went here after spending a day at a similar mine nearby only because Mason's was one of the few places open on Sunday. Mason's was OK but was completely outclassed by the customer service and... more »

The staff were amazing! Helpful, friendly, and absolutely pleasant. The process was easy and they wouldn't let you accidentally dump a gem, checking your screen and offering tips. We will definitely come back when we visit again from Colorado.

We really enjoyed our trip here. This was fun for the whole family. The ride was beautiful and your website was so helpful! The staff is amazing, not only helping you but teaching you as well! We spent the day here and packed a picnic lunch. What more can you ask for, a day to play in the dirt and kids were worn out! Perfect!

Took the family gem mining for the day! My oldest loves gems and this was the perfect spot for her. She got to dig for her own sapphire’s and absolutely loved every moment. The staff was very helpful with finding the stones and any questions we had were answered! This was our first time going but won’t be the last! Love that there’s a flat rate and no time limit to how long you can look for stones! Highly recommend going!

We had a blast. We dug straight out of the clay piles, no seeded India stuff for us, just native sapphire hunting. I ended up with over 11 carats of Sapphires and my sister got over 16. Some lady found a 33 carat single stone from the same area we were digging. The helpers were awesome at making sure we knew what we were looking for and keeping us from throwing out any stones. They were obviously very into gemstones in general and Austin even let my niece hold their meteorite! Fun was had by all.

Went there yesterday with my son and had a great time. It's physical work but we came away with sweaty t-shirts and 17.05 carats total. The biggest just over a carat with 2 1/2 hours work. Saw a 3ct and a 5ct found while we were there. If you native mine you will get dirty and a little wet in the flume. See their website and watch the video! All the people there were super friendly to my son and I. Thank you everyone there for a fun experience! We will go back for sure!!!
