In 1971 young Johnny Morris, frustrated by the lack of tackle in local stores, rented a U-Haul trailer and took off across the country filling it with the newest premium fishing tackle he could find.To visit Bass Pro Shops on your holiday in Foxboro, and find out what else Foxboro has to offer, use our Foxboro itinerary builder.
When he returned home to Springfield, Missouri, Johnny started in the fishing business with eight feet of space in his dad’s liquor store which became a popular stopping-off place for local and out-of-state fishermen on the way to the Ozark’s famous bass lakes.
A number of these anglers started calling when they got back home wanting Johnny to send them some of his specialized Bass Pro Shops tackle. In 1974, in response to this demand, he printed and mailed his first Bass Pro Shops catalog. Today, outdoor enthusiasts around the world look forward to opening the mail and getting their favorite Bass Pro Shops catalog, while many enjoy visiting and shopping basspro.com.
In 1978, Johnny introduced the first professionally rigged boat, motor and trailer fish-ready package. The Bass Tracker boat “package” revolutionized the marine industry. Huge boat showrooms are featured in every Bass Pro Shops store.
Bass Pro Shops today isn’t just fishing. It is an outdoor retail leader in hunting, camping, nature gifts, outdoor cooking, and much more.
From that simple beginning, Bass Pro Shops has become one of America’s premier outdoor retailers with destination outdoor retail stores across America and Canada, serving over 75 million sportsmen a year. Each store is unique and offers a truly unforgettable shopping experience - as close to the Great Outdoors as you can get indoors!

Came here with my boyfriend to look for a bow for me. He already has one and hunts, and I shoot but want to get into archery as well. We came to Outdoor World/Bass Pro to try a bow and get my measurements etc. Nick in archery was awesome and super helpful! I hadn't shot a bow in 14 years and at that time it was a recurve bow. I had zero experience with a compound bow. Nick took my measurements adjusted the bow for me and explained how to hold it and shoot and he was very patient with all my questions. Nick also shoots bows so his enthusiasm in helping me was sincere. Thanks, Nick!
Love coming here! Everything is decorated perfectly plenty of things to shop for interactive shooting games, great staff, we spend hours in here! Definitely try the Blue Finn too!
I neither hunt nor fish but I still love coming here! I come for specialty flashlights, specialty grilling tools or spices, things one might need for a long road trip, fun and funky clothes, extra warm coats and gloves, free photos with Santa, the fish and turtles in the running-river aquarium, and the nature walk around the cranberry bog. Never found a bike rack and it would be treacherous to bike to here any way.
Staff at gun store seem to be at a lost. I decided to buy another fire arm at this store since Cabela's is around 40 miles away, where I bought my first pistol. I bought a rifle at this store, and funny enough - it took me like 6 times re-entering my data at their laptop and waiting hours apparently due to bad connections. Luckily, I got my rifle after 4 days - considering that I spent hours at the store. Second time I went, I decided to purchase a more reliable, better quality pistol since my first pistol got a broken firing pin (striker) - it sucks! I had to enter my data again at their laptop - same story, it took long time before they told me to wait for their call and I had to leave empty handed. Got a call after 5 days, so I went after office hours - did the same procedure all over again. Only to find out that I had to wait for their call "again" after 3 days whether cleared or not after long time waiting! It's total waste of time so I just decided to cancel my order and leave! I think I'll just buy online and pick up at an FFL store near me - not Bass Pro Shops. Cabela's has better gun store staff, as per experience - but it's just far.
Excellent service! AJ was so informative. I new I was with a pro, all my questions were answered. Thank you AJ and Bass Pro Shop!!!
