In 1971 young Johnny Morris, frustrated by the lack of tackle in local stores, rented a U-Haul trailer and took off across the country filling it with the newest premium fishing tackle he could find.

When he returned home to Springfield, Missouri, Johnny started in the fishing business with eight feet of space in his dad’s liquor store which became a popular stopping-off place for local and out-of-state fishermen on the way to the Ozark’s famous bass lakes.

A number of these anglers started calling when they got back home wanting Johnny to send them some of his specialized Bass Pro Shops tackle. In 1974, in response to this demand, he printed and mailed his first Bass Pro Shops catalog. Today, outdoor enthusiasts around the world look forward to opening the mail and getting their favorite Bass Pro Shops catalog, while many enjoy visiting and shopping

In 1978, Johnny introduced the first professionally rigged boat, motor and trailer fish-ready package. The Bass Tracker boat “package” revolutionized the marine industry. Huge boat showrooms are featured in every Bass Pro Shops store.

Bass Pro Shops today isn’t just fishing. It is an outdoor retail leader in hunting, camping, nature gifts, outdoor cooking, and much more.

  • This is probably the most spectacular store that I've ever seen. It's worth visiting just to gawk at the amazing setup inside. Two waterfalls, an electronic gun range, a giant tank with enormous fish, a pool with live turtles, a life-size whale hanging from the ceiling, a dazzling array of grills and guns, bows, boats, and other sports gear. The cafe isn't bad, although the food sometimes disagrees with me. The prices seem reasonable...but it's worth visiting the place just to look around. It's practically like an amusement park.
  • Fishing lovers, hunting lovers, also nice place to east and meet friends lovers :0) yes! That's right they have a nice and decent restaurant inside the store where you can enjoy a nice burger with beer while you rest a little of shopping 0)
  • Great staff tons and tons of stuff to buy just wish I could spend all day there . We ate at there restaurant down stairs. Food was good and service was great. The lady's were really nice and helped us pick something to eat since it was our first time eating there and even gave us extra pickles thanks will be coming back for sure.
  • Ok love this place, but after today not so sure.i arrived at 8:32 looking at reels.not to mention i just purchased a st.croix rod one week earlier for 125$.found the one i wanted to buy the cleark said yeah i have one left, threw it across the counter and emptied his register and left!!??? SO i'm like wow i brought my new st.croix rod to fit a reel to it and hopefully get some pointers in doing so but no it was almost closing time so screw me.dude just left.but i purchased it anyway.and picked up 3 shirts as tell me whwre is the customer help, interaction and commitment in this 3 weeks i spend over 235$ and the so called fishing experts can't spend 4-5minutes with me.won't be spending any more of my hard earnings at this so called outdoor world.
  • Always a great place to shop. I get almost all of my fishing needs here. Plenty to choose from, with great deals to be found. Make sure to drop by the trail in the back and take a nice .5 mile stroll through the woods.
