  • I have wanted to visit this museum for a couple years but timing was never quite right. FINALLY I was able to take my adult son, 2 yr old grandson and 12 yr old daughter on Saturday. What an incredibl...  more »
  • As a museum for Texans, it is probably excellent. Seen through non-Texan eyes however, it lacks balance, clearly favouring the Confederate side. The direct comparison of equipment (uniform, guns, fiel...  more »

  • Good museum - interesting 30 min film with good production values. A little pro southern. Interesting artifacts - cannons, guns, meds, uniforms, dresses, etc. Some cool models near the end. Good gift shop. Only a handful of Confederate flags in the gift shop as far as I could tell. Edit: Excellent response from the venue below.
  • I enjoyed our trip to this museum last week very much. Not only do they have a lot of pieces from the war as well as replica pieces, but they also ahve a really nice section that is full of women's civil war era dresses. There is a nice balance to the museum's layout, as well as the number of museum items they have stored there. They also have scavenger hunt papers for kids to use and be interactive while learning.
  • Very surprised at the quantity and quality of exhibits and thoroughly enjoyed the movie. This is a hot subject in U.S. History. The museum does an excellent job on focusing on just the facts. I was astonished upon realizing how rudimentary equipment and medical practices were only a 100 years ago. Highly suggest for children's learning because of the strong visual impacts. Beautifully well-preserved Victorian gowns collection and the largest collection of Civil War flags available. Great comparison of how some things have changed so radically, such as technology and how some things have changed very little, such as a soldier's personal gear.
  • Wow a learning experience! Movie, eh it was ok. I was kind falling asleep I hate to admit. But looking at the men and women fashion was rather interesting. Looking and reading bout the guns used was interesting too.
  • I have driven by this place countless times over the last 25 years and even though I have a fair interest in history, I was never that intrigued by what I saw. My wife and I decided to go to the museum today and we're very glad we did. This is one "book" that definitely can't be judged by its cover. The museum is very well done and very thorough. If you're a northern transplant, you might think the museum is just geared towards the south and or Texas. This is not the case at all. It is evenly divided between Union and Confederate exhibits. One aspect I particularly liked was that most of the artifacts were not just general representations of items used during the war but were documented and tied to specific soldiers or units. They have several items that were personal possessions of Generals Grant and Lee including the uniform jacket worn by Grant at Appomattox. There is also a very large display of Victorian Era women's apparel. If you're really lucky, as we were, a group called Buttermilk Junction will be there performing period music. They are a "Living History Old Time String Band" and are very good. You can see them on Facebook and or YouTube. I'm sure you could call the museum and find out when they'll be performing. This is a very high caliber museum and definitely a day well spent. It's also well worth a long drive from out of town for a weekend in Fort Worth.
