#1 of 12 in Parks in Fort Worth
Fort Worth Zoo was founded in 1909 with just a handful of animals, making it the oldest zoo in Texas. Today the zoo has been ranked as the fifth best in the country by USA Travel Guide and is home to almost 7,000 animals. You can discover an array of exotic creatures, such as penguins, Asian elephants, chimpanzees, poison dart frogs, and parrots, as well as see an extensive collection of native Texan species. To view aquatic animals, visit the Great Barrier Reef exhibit. The zoo features a number of rides and activities, including a carousel, rock-climbing tower, and hurricane and tornado simulators. • We are big zoo people so it made sense for us to travel out of our way to come to the Ft Worth Zoo. This zoo is stretched out like a long snake. They have LOTS of colorful birds, great for photos! Mos...  more »

  • My children grow up going to the Fort Worth Zoo. Personally the only thing that stop me from going more often is the prices. I like half price Wednesday's. The zoo offers a large variety of animals and insects to see. They even have exotic animals on display. If you go it is best you go early in the day and plan out your visit if you want to see everything because the zoo is really spread out and you have the option of taking your owe food and drinks. There are several places you can stop and eat. The zoo provide several restaurants to eat at also. The zoo offer more tan just seeing the animals. You can ride the train, visit the infirmary, visit the show that they have at certain times as well as animals that are in shows, visit their education area, camps, petting zoo and don't forget the gift shop. The only reason I did not give a higher rating is because one of the main attraction the large silver back gorilla that i went to see had died and the fact that they are doing a lot of renovation and parts of the zoo was closed. Also the large crocodile that was on display by Burger King is no longer there! Pets are not allowed only service animals!
  • This place is great. Unfortunately our visit was rained on. But it was kind of nice having the zoo all to ourselves. Will definitely be back when the weather is more predictable. Food could stand to be cheaper but I know that mark up is a big money maker. Gift shop prices were pretty fair.
  • The Fort Worth Zoo has really grown! I can't compare it to other zoo's because I haven't been to other zoo's but at the Fort Worth Zoo there is lots of walking, lots to see. More than you can see in half a day. You need a full day and a well plan out trip to see everything. You can bring your own food and drinks or you can eat at one of their restaurants! There are shows which features certain animals at posted times. There is a rock wall for kids to climb. There is an infirmary where you can view how they treat sick animals. Don't forget to visit the gift shop! They are still expanding the zoo! If you can find the time take a ride on the 5 mile train. The hours are: Monday-Friday 10am-5pm and Saturday-Sunday 10-6pm. Good Friday and Easter may differ!
  • I really do enjoy the Fort Worth Zoo. It is a great place to bring the family and get together with friends. They have a very rustic setup and it seems very homely. I strongly suggest bringing your own food because the cost can be high and the lines can be long. Definitely plan on doing a decent amount of walking as the zoo is fairly stretched out. There is not a lot of cover so make sure you have plenty of sunscreen and water. Wednesday is half price which is a great value and if you really want to go the extra quarter mile there is free parking nearby. There are plenty of activities for young and old. If you live here or are visiting Fort Worth I strongly suggest making this a stop on your itinerary.
  • Wonderful zoo that I have ever visited. They got plenty of wild animals which I saw for first time in my life. I got chance to see White tiger. I also saw lions and many other African animals. It was the zoo which I was wondering to visit since 3 years. I went from Houston to visit that zoo. You need to give your all day and you can get satisfied. It was really managed very well. We were lucky to see white tiger very close in the window. It was a-bit scary. Allover, it is the wonderful place to visit. You can enjoy your family time by visiting this zoo. Your money is worth it on this place. Have a wonderful time in this place. Thank you 😊
