Okaloosa Island Fishing Pier, Fort Walton Beach

Famous for big fish, Okaloosa Island Fishing Pier draws fisherman and spectators alike to marvel at the fish that the Gulf of Mexico produces in this region. Large tuna, king mackerel, and cobia have been reeled in here. The pier extends more than 384 m (1,262 ft) into the ocean and serves as a great place to watch the sunset, observe those fishing, or catch glimpses of dolphins, stingrays, and sea turtles. You'll find a tackle shop on the pier, and if you forget your gear, you can rent equipment.  A beach grill is located at the end pier, and the Gulfarium next door hosts live marine mammal performances. There is a fee required to walk out onto the pier; it costs more if you would like to fish. • Didn't catch any fish but can't really blame the pier for us choosing a bad day to fish! Nicely upkept. Pretty expensive for a pier (8$) but it's the only one in the area, so might as well charge a premium.
  • Beautiful water! Seems to have lots of those white fish. Will definitely do pier fishing next time we visit.
  • Good place to drop a line and try your luck. Depending on time of year, lots of fish to be caught. Rental rods and bait are available at the front when you walk into the pier shack to pay. As of this date, it's $8 to fish and $2 to walk. Handicapped accessable. Bathrooms on the very end. ( The only pier in this region with that) a couple of words of caution...the is NO bottom fishing on the octagon (the end of the pier). Know what you are catching. (Rules and regs books are available at the front free of charge) The FWC does come out and will write you a very expensive ticket if caught with over bag or illegal sized fish. If walking, keep your head on a swivel, especially during the late spring and early summer. The staff at the front is knowledgeable and friendly.
  • This place is so cool! My boyfriend and I chose just to walk along the pier ($2/person-absolutely worth it) and were blown away by everything we saw. We saw dolphins swimming around and saw several dolphins chasing after the fish that people were catching. We saw a sea turtle swimming beneath the pier and then followed a mother and baby dolphin for awhile. We witnessed some interesting catches by people who chose to fish. Hands down, this place was one of the most memorable places of our trip. We even came back to watch fireworks on Wednesday.
  • Nice pier. Perry pelicans. Bring your bait. $8 IMO is too much to fish.
