  • This museum was recommended by a family member and I can only wonder why she kept this gem from me for so long! Previously unknown to me, I am now a huge fan. The man was not only a talented painter h...  more »
  • Always very nice unique displays of art. Great improvements recently. The hostesses are very informative and helpful.  more »
  • We drove three hours to visit Ft Pierce, specifically to visit this museum, and it was well worth it. Backus was a talented, mostly self taught artist who I think has not yet achieved the appreciation...  more »

  • Orginal Highway Men painted on ae bacus's porch right around the corner. A doctor who taught other to paint and never turned away a needy soul...famous paintings and rare installations
  • Original art by Beanie Backus and "The Highwaymen" the men he taught to paint. Whom sold their works, many in homemade wooden frames, up and down US Highway 1, thus receiving the name Hifhwaymen. View what "The Treasure Coast's landscapes and sea acapes looked like to the artists. The musuem is quiet, clean, small enough to visit in an hour or large enough to enjoy art for a lifetime. A MUST DO visit in St Lucie County. Plus located directly on the Indian River next door to the Manatee Center ($2.00 entrance fee) and the the Chamber of Conference, there is plenty to see including the river and the boats.
  • Fantastic and very classy venue. The art gallery is amazing.
  • Great gallery and wonderful place to visit whether you're just visiting or a local.
  • Nice building renovations have been made. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Love Backus as an artist.
