  • This is a well preserved, well-signed Civil War fort that is certainly worth a visit if you are in the area.  more »
  • When you drive up, it doesn't look very exciting. And then you go into the center of the fort. It was amazing! You get to walk around and explore inside the rooms of the fort as well as the outside We...  more »
  • Took the grandkids to the fort because the ferry which is right next door was broke down. Nice to be able to experience history first hand. Self guided, but there was a man in period attire that was a...  more »

  • Fun place to learn and explore. Located on the corner of Mobile Bay and the Gulf beach. You can imbibe inside the fort and walk back through the old chambers. This gives a feel for how difficult the conditions were. There is a nice spot to walk out on the bay side beach and see some natural beach. A couple precautions are you will need to climb on old steps for the best sites and they close at 5. We spent about 3 hours and saw everything very thoroughly. Not equipped for wheel chairs or scooters.
  • We love the historic sites and really enjoyed this one. The weather was windy and cold but a great experience. The water views were spectacular. Didn't get to take the ferry to Dauphin Island so we will go back and enjoy the fort again on our next visit
  • We missed the car ferry since we didn't arrive over an hour early. So we visited here instead. This was my second time here. It is very hands off and they have limited staff. But you can wander around and try to find the historic signs. There is a numbered map to follow and a mini museum with a gift shop attendant. Fort Gaines has employees doing demonstrations and answer questions so I recommend going across the bay, not here.
  • If you are looking for some unique adventure check out the fort. Small fee is worth it. Climb and walk around this neat historic place. Take a walk back in time.Makes for some fantastic vacation photos, lots of vivid color!
  • Fort Morgan is a really neat place to learn about history. It was so cool to walk about the fort and look at all the old architect. If you are every in the gulf shores area, make sure that you save time to stop here. Prices are not bad to get in, and it's worth it.
