A must when visiting Fort Lauderdale! In this beautifully designed modern museum I'm running up against unexpected works of great artists. The museum is well set up with spacious rooms making the art reflects. As a lover of modern (Visual) art I'm pretty spoiled. Especially the COBRA room was fantastic. The structure of dramatic (almost epic) works of Duchamp and Warhol, Koons, via Kiefer to COBRA and beautiful modern works of Glackens is good. I had never before seen Glackens's work. He has a beautiful style with some iconic images as far as I'm concerned. Am now a big fan and deeply touched. The variety of modern art is sometimes a bit illogical. You expect a certain consistency. The African-Cuban art of Bedia from Miami does not fit into the picture. Obviously this is a matter of taste. I understand, of course, the (legitimate) attention to regional artists. You can park around the corner (at normal rates) and a small bite to eat and drink in the museum itself (do not expect too much of). If you have a few hours have the time it is good to stay here. You may not take pictures (monitoring is very careful), too bad but understandable. The staff are friendly and helpful (good American, I appreciate though). The entrance fee is reasonable and there are special rates for seniors and defence employees (also from outside the US). My traveling companion had a defensiepas so we had free entry on presentation (!). This was a temporary action. Just check in advance. In short, a highly recommended if you like modern art and museums is visiting!

Shamefully after 25 years living in Broward, I went to the museum with my brother who was visiting. There's a lot more space than they currently need. I hope they add more exhibits as time goes on. I ...  more »

It is nice small museum that was a nice way to get out of the sun for an hour. The exhibits where well spaced out, but it all depends on your personal taste. Luckily the docent we meet made the whole ...  more »

All depends on the current exhibit. NSU Art Museum is fine for what it is, which is basically a gallery for traveling exhibits. The permanent collection is mostly modern art, nothing too remarkable or memorable. We were fortune to visit during an exhibit of Frida Kahlo & Diego Rivera art. It was wonderful and well worth the visit. Be it not for an exhibit that interests you personally, the NSU is one that can probably be skipped.

Bonnie Clearwater has put the NSU on the map with a progressive and academic yet approachable program. Most cities should be as lucky as we are....

Very nice exhibits that are spread nicely apart so you can enjoy viewing.

Pretty small museum. Only took 15 minutes to finish. We also had an argument with security guard for not allowing us to bring a diaper bag inside which we were forced to just put everything in a plastic bag.

Very boring, bizarre, wacky, not interesting "art". One whole section was a weird naked lady chasing people. Another was a white dress with shards of glass in it. You would really have to be a specific art buff to like anything there.
