  • We like the historical offerings of the Museum. As collectors of stoneware, this is an excellent place to bone-up on your knowledge of Iowa stoneware - especially Ft Dodge Stoneware. Have FUN!  more »

  • Very complete cabinet maker and several other shops. No interpreters just static displays. Well worth a couple hours.
  • We are responding to those whom may have had a not so great experience. @Shawn Law: We assume you are commenting on Frontier Days. Frontier Days is planned by a separate entity called "Frontier Days Committee". The museum is NOT involved in planning the events for that weekend; our facility is rented by that entity. We have been asked to provide some assistance on Front Street, but it is minimal. This is a change from years ago. @PerSue the Dream: The museum advertises and explains to visitors that the museum's fort is a replica of Fort Williams that was located on the Iowa/Minnesota border in 1862-64. It was named after the founder of the city of Fort Dodge, Wm. Williams, who was captain at Fort Williams. We only have one original building left of the old Fort of Fort Dodge, which was temporarily relocated at Oleson Park when it was moved from its original location and before it came to our museum site in 1964. We do indicate to visitors where the original fort was located, and a model is shown in our East Exhibit Hall. The museum complex is filled with items donated by local residents, some are artifacts from early settlers, others are uniforms from the Civil War-WW II, and some are buildings or donated wares from other buildings from Webster County or other places in Iowa. We cover roughly an one hundred year period. It has come to our attention that some travel blogs and vlogs, including descriptions used by groups within our own city, provide incorrect information about what our museum represents. We are sorry for that inconvenience. And for those, not just the gentleman who made the complaint, who were not able to come into the museum during our off season and did not see that posted on our website, we are working with a new website this past (not even a year yet) year, and did not realize that the banner at the top of our website had a glitch. If you were looking at our old website (which is now pulled off the web), apologies as we were transferring information from one to the other. We hope you will all give the Fort Museum and Frontier Village another try. We appreciate your comments, and are making adjustments and improvements all the time to best serve our visitors. Thanks!
  • A wonderful family experience and a good learning tool for children. A great place to visit!
  • Not like it used to be when the pork dinner was at the fort about 6 yrs ago or so.Wasn't impressed
  • Historically inaccurate. The original fort wasn't at this site and it certainly didn't have a wall around it. Unless you ask questions, you would assume from the displays and such that this museum had something to do with Fort Dodge the Fort. This is really a museum of Ft Dodge the TOWN not the actual Fort. I was disappointed and felt like I had been deceived. Not worth the price if you are interested in real history.
