Gardens on Spring Creek, Fort Collins

#5 of 13 in Parks in Fort Collins
In 1995, a non-profit group successfully convinced the Fort Collins city council to initiate a city-funded community horticulture program. The positive results of that program’s many dozens of gardens and gardening projects were then used as a springboard to secure the endorsement of voters in a 1997 municipal election, resulting in $3,000,000 in city funding for The Gardens on Spring Creek.

In the spring of 2001, The Friends organization was established for the purpose of providing support for The Gardens on Spring Creek and to aid the implementation of its mission and programming. After much hard work, including many thousands of volunteer hours, The Gardens opened to the community in January 2004.

Major accomplishments of the Friends of The Gardens on Spring Creek to date include:

-Securing funding towards the construction of the Evelyn Clark Classroom facility, the Children’s Garden, the Entry Garden, and the Garden of Eatin' (which provides fresh, healthy produce for distribution through the Food Bank of Larimer County)

-Establishing a membership of over 200 local citizens that provide financial support to The Gardens on Spring Creek through annual dues, donations, and participation in special events

-Organizing and conducting special events each year to promote awareness of The Gardens on Spring Creek

Producing a semi-annual newsletter highlighting educational and community events held at The Gardens on Spring Creek

  • The gardens provided the opportunity to become familiar with the plants, trees and flowers of Colorado. We spent over an hour in the gardens exploring. Our favorite was the rock garden.  more »

  • This is such a great spot to take kids! The sand box, train, little house, hole digging area, little secret spots along the walkway.... My kids love it! We also really enjoy the Read and Seed they put on and of course the lights/Santa/craft during Christmas time!
  • I had never been here before, but was pleasantly surprised by what I saw. As I was only there for a Winter Beekeeping class, a lot of the plants were dormant, but the staff was very good at answering any questions and I'm sure they are looking forward to the start of the growing season as much as I am. The Fort Collins Recreator offers some classes that are housed at the facility and I highly recommend the location to anyone as it was warm (in the Winter!) and clean so we were able to enjoy the class without having to fret over anything.
  • Nice little garden. Most everything was sleeping below ground when we visited so there wasn’t much to see. But we did get to see all the babies growing for their plant sale. The admission was donation based so we didn’t feel disappointed at all. This place is probably fantastic come spring.
  • Nice Winter Visit We visited the Gardens for the first time to see their Christmas Lights Display. A very pleasant evening outside and wonderful creative holiday lights displays. A nice slow walk through the lighted areas, with many other people enjoying this holiday event. Lots of photos were taken and hot cider was offered outside the greenhouse, where holiday music was being performed. The Gift Shop was open and featured many creative ideas for gifts. Christmas flowering plants were also offered for sale. The walking areas are flat so wheelchairs could pass, but we didn't notice any this night. Parking was free and there was enough of it. Admission was a suggested $5 donation per adult.
  • Fun place to bring children. My 11 year old and 2 year old grandchildren had fun. We will be coming here again!
