  • Out of the way historic gem! Continuing restorations ensure that every visit holds something new. After hours tours and special programs are wonderful additions. We visit at least twice a year and are particularly fond of the Barrels, Bottles & Casks tour as well as the candlelight Christmas tour.
  • Delightful! We had a wonderful tour guide named Ann. She was very knowledgeable and answered our questions. We also met Gena and Kyle who were helpful. Everyone was welcoming and because we were on the first tour of the day, we got to meet several of the workers and grounds keepers. Thomas Jefferson would be pleased with the effort these fine folks put into Poplar Forest. :-)
  • Nice place to learn a little extra history of Thomas Jefferson and his personal life outside of politics. The restorations of the house are very nice. Take the guided tour if you have the time.
  • As much as I enjoyed the beautiful grounds and learning about Thomas Jefferson's life and talents, I would have gotten much more from visiting Monticello. This estate did not have as much to offer as I expected. Renovations are still ongoing and ticket prices are high. It is, however, worth a visit for those living in the area.
  • If you want to know Thomas Jefferson; the man, then you'll want to experience Poplar Forest. It's truly a wonderful place that has been exceptionally well managed and maintained in recent years.
